Swiss production wizard Andrea Oliva returns to Hot Creations this October with a solid three-track EP that oozes a fierce and fiery rhythm.

Title track Upside Down fires up the EP from the off with its growling bassline and elements of glitchy goodness. Piano Not Piano juxtaposes hi-hats against the thud of the industrial bass, adding piano chords and a drop of acid. The EP closes with Sound Like That, a groovy roller with a distorted vocal stab. Discussing the EP, Andrea explains that he wanted to “have influences of acid, house and techno, supported by solid grooves”, also revealing that he is “very happy to be back on the label with three diverse tracks”.

A mainstay on the White Isle and with appearances at Tomorrowland, Sunwaves, Sonus, Medusa, Kappa Futur and DGTL, Andrea Oliva is one of the industry’s most in-demand DJs. In 2016 he was invited by Radio 1’s Pete Tong to record a coveted Essential Mix, which was live from Ushuaia. Last year he also made his Boiler Room debut, as well as performing Mixmag’s Lab and DJ Mag sessions. He’s released on respected imprints such as Desolat, Knee Deep In Sound, Saved, Moon Harbour and Relief and has remixed for a plethora of high-profile artists. Now with this latest Hot Creations release, Oliva’s career shows no sign of slowing down.

Joe Bradley is in an amazing shape and keeps proving it with every release he puts out. In this ‘Funky Drummer EP’ he gets it again, with a three tracker that will bang many dancefloors. Opening the EP with the track naming it, ‘Funky Drummer (Original Mix)’ is a straight-funk affair, with the perfect tech-house vibe infused to it and with an amazing set of vocals, giving the track a character of its own. Perfect for banging crowds and dancefloors. ‘Beat Boss (Original Mix)’ continues with that techy vibe, being a more structured track, with an amazing set of FX that break into madness and that will do the rounds perfectly in any dancefloor at any time. Closing the EP we have ‘Trippy Feeling (Original Mix)’, a track in which Latmun manages to pack up a nice set of sound FX and different psychedelic elements, with a steadier vibe, perfect for transient times in the dancefloor and to make any dancer wonder what’s going to be next. elrow Music continues to deliver great quality tracks for the floor, this time bringing yet another great name to the family. Dance music’s prolific Italian-born London-based sharpshooter Riva Starr set to release fourth artist album Curveballs via Adam Beyer’s revered Truesoul Records on 26 October, alongside a 4-track sampler to precede the LP on 21 September.

Riva Starr has been shaking up the world of dance music with his eclectic and unpredictable palette of sounds and styles for over a decade. Over the years, he has racked up numerous accolades and achievements including releasing 3 acclaimed albums (If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade in 2010, Hand In Hand in 2013 and Definition of Sound in 2016), having a myriad of single/EP releases on some of dance music’s most established labels (Snatch! Records, Hot Creations, Relief, Crosstown Rebels, Dirtybird) and amassing an impressive remix resume of artists including; Audion, Groove Armada, Dennis Ferrer, Usher, Estelle, London Grammar, Fatboy Slim, Reboot and David Morales.  

With all of this success and experience under his belt, the time has come for the talented Italian to deliver his much awaited fourth long-player, Curveballs – comprising of 12 stellar tracks inspired by current club sounds and old school music elements, driven by Starr’s endeavor to produce music that stands the test of time.

The LP’s striking opener, ‘Always’ gets things underway and sets the tone with its powerful house groove, warm chord stabs and divine soulful vocal courtesy of legendary house diva Jocelyn Brown. Elsewhere, there’s the funk-driven disco-tinged ‘Piknik’, the uplifting ‘Needin’ U’ esque ‘Disco Loco’, the dark and commanding ‘The Hole (Release Your Soul) and the pounding peak-time synth-laden roller ‘Give Me Love’.  

Other highlights include, the infectious breakbeat workout ‘Britcoin’, the techy electro-tinged ‘Fresh’ and the experimental synth-driven Techno gem ‘AnalHog’. The album concludes with 3 fine cuts in the form of the bass heavy TR-909 laden ‘Ride’, the funk-fueled house groover ‘Mantra (Early In The Morning)’ and an exclusive deep-house-esque Dub version of ‘Give Me Love’ to round off yet another essential long-player from one of dance music’s much-loved artists.

Earlier this summer Monaberry misters Super Flu sailed into the summer with their stately ‘Ark’. Big and groovy enough to contain 200 of every animal, they eventually crashed it after a summer of their sweetest technoid soirees. Now safely back on dry land, the duo lure us back into the clubland winter months with two more provocative slices of dancefloor theatre.

‘Selee’ sets the scene with strong mystic twinges and twangs and a dynamic arrangement that peaks and troughs on its own momentum. Cathedral like in height and scope, rain forest like in its density and intensity, if this doesn’t grab your dancefloor by the short and curlies, you’re playing to the wrong crowd. 

Speaking of wrongs; ‘Bongbeat’ is here to abstain you from any you feel you might have committed this summer.
