I wrote ‘Yehowa Dzin’ in an examination center at school. I was writing the Principles of Costing exam in 2002. Prior to writing the paper, I was super nervous because I had not prepared for it. Actually, I had never been prepared for Costing, because I hate… hate… hated that subject. It never made sense to me, though we had the best teacher teaching it. He had authored books on the subject, and had even sampled a number of his questions from the past questions he had solved in his book. If I remember correctly, he had told us to abreast ourselves with certain questions from his book. All these hints he gave to us, yet, I could not see a single question I could boast of solving correctly. 

It was one of the most difficult examinations I ever attempted to write. And because anxiety had already set in before entering the examination hall, I knew what I was going to do the moment the invigilator handed me the questions and asked us to start work; I guessed my way through all the multiple-choice questions. Any answer that looked ‘smart’ to my liking, I shaded the affiliated alphabet to it. That was all I was doing for the section ‘A’, suffocating myself with lotto numbers. 

When I got to the section ‘B’ of the exam, I started panicking about the probable result I would score because I didn’t have a clue as to how to solve any question there too. Unlike the section ‘A’, where I could at least guess my way through multiple-choice answers, the section ‘B’ demanded of us to solve a question by showing work. I realized after quickly reading the room that most of the students were also finding the paper pretty difficult – from their facial expressions. They probably might have studied hard, but unfortunately, the questions weren’t what they expected. I wasn’t even thinking about that, because I knew I had not studied. I might have pretended to, but then, what was the point to studying a subject that I COULD NOT COMPREHEND A SINGLE QUESTION? I couldn’t find meaning in any question, and that was scary as hell. 

While I sat there, contemplating on my fate, I thought I heard a voice speak to me that, Principles of Costing wasn’t the most difficult examination to write; LIFE is/was! And that, most of us (people) are failing at this exam called LIFE, because we are rather busy trying to copy others, forgetting that EVERYONE has a different question paper to solve. At this point, I had come to the conclusion that what was done was done! And it was time to move forward and shake off that horrible, terrible feeling of frustration and failure. 

And what was the best way to do this? By availing myself in that moment of uncertainty, to receive a new song. This is something I enjoy doing whenever I am in a kind of fix; I open my heart for any sort of inspiration to fill me up. GOD has always been my to-go-to Person when I am overwhelmed with so much emotions. GOD is the one person I trust and talk to about what I feel at any given moment. Sharing my innermost feelings with Him alone takes a section of the burden off my shoulders. And, this is something I learned from my mother. 

When He (GOD) dropped the melody of ‘Yehowa Dzin’ in my spirit, I could see things from a different perspective, and it helped me feel better. I couldn’t figure my Costing exam out, that was rather unfortunate but then, there was nothing I could do about it. And so, I used the remaining time left for me to finish with the paper, to write the lyrics to the song. I did not fail the costing exams. I did not pass either.
