Dj Surgeles (Kole Leijen) is a true musician with a lot of energy. He started digging into his parent’s records collection at the age of five and at the young age of eight his sister introduced him to House music. Soon after that, young Surgeles got his first set of turntables as a present for his birthday and started visiting regularly his local record dealer. While after a couple of years he started producing his own dark, deep and swerving Techno. 

In 2005, while attending a Jeff Mills’s show, Surgeles managed to give a demo CD to The Wizard. The very next day Surgeles received a personal mail from Jeff Mills claiming that his music sounded great and that it inspired him to let Surgeles make a mix for his Purpose Maker Label. Two weeks later Surgeles’ mix was on Jeffs Mills’ Axis Records’ website for the 10th anniversary of the all-time Techno anthem “The Bells”.

Later that year, during the Amsterdam Dance Event, Surgeles won a competition hosted by Dave Clarke for the best produced track and was than picked to play on Dave Clarke’s White Noise Radio show on 3FM Radio. Around 2007 Kole started throwing his own parties called ‘Civilized?” at the legendary Escape club in Amsterdam. While 2009 marked the beginning of his career as record-label boss, as he launched his brainchild: ‘Underground Freedom Fighters (UFF) Records’.

Ever since, the collaborations with Jeff Mills kept on flowing and Surgeles’ consecration came when Jeff asked him to make a compilation for his label, ‘Something In The Sky’. In 2017 Jeff entrusted DJ Surgeles to take care of “the Betty Hill Case”, a 12” inspired by the story and the interviews of an American couple, who were allegedly abducted by extraterrestrials in a rural portion of New Hampshire in 1961. 

Since then, DJ Surgeles has released 8 releases and another few DJ mixes at Axis Records, which is the most from all external Axis artist of the world!

Albert van Abbe & Jochem Paap join forces for General Audio. Recorded at Willem Twee studios in Den Bosch, General Audio explores a unique and esoteric approach to sound creation. Using test and measure equipment from the 1950s, originally designed for the maintenance of various audio and radio transmitters, van Abbe and Paap create otherworldly walls of sound and dense rhythmic abstractions with an early form of synthesis. Rudimentary signals are combined and processed before being committed to tape via mics set up to capture the Willem Twee studio’s unique acoustics. The equipment itself predates the invention of the analog, modular synthesizers developed in the ’70s that are now commonplace in many studios.

The guest for this edition of the Minimal Detroit podcast is Amnesiac Host, a DC-based DJ/producer and live act. He co-manages the Darkroom Bureau label and he’s co-hosted the 100% Live party in Detroit over the past few years.

He recorded this hardware set exclusively for Minimal Detroit, adding, "I recorded this mix in a single-take using a modular synth, MPC, and a xone92. I say 'mix' because I like moving between sequences on the xone similar to how I would move between tracks when DJing. I try to minimize hard transitions, allocating more time to the EQs, faders, and filters instead. The overall atmosphere I'm trying to create is one with deep kicks, lush chord pads, and subtly-moving FM leads."

ante portās, to date better known under pseudonym Raleigh, is a Czech DJ and commuter that frequently moves between Prague and Brno. He is a member of a well-known Prague brand Harmony Records and a moderator of a newly emerging podcast radio Isolate. His new alter-ego ante portās gives more space for experimentation and brings music in a calmer and more relaxed spirit, which attracts attention with confident handwriting. In his music, he slows down older, well-selected tracks and mixes them with the latest material creating an original combination of different moods across multiple genres.
