Some holes are drilled precisely
and clearly to serve a purpose,
others are rough gaping openings
where purpose has been lost.

In Eighteen Fifty-One 
an Architect Leopold Eidlitz 
wrote a letter to a church building committee. 
Like many letters to many committee
it was read aloud in a meeting, 
some half hearted decisions were made. 
There was tea and very likely crumpets, nibbled upon, 
and the letter was mostly forgotten.
 
In Nineteen and Ninety One
a young man filled out a form 
as legibly as possible and a check,
to a catalogue store called Musicians Friend.
Unlike Leopold Eidlitz letter,
it was acknowledged quickly acted upon.
soon a young man named Audi
would receive a Korg Prophecy.

In the Year Two thousand and fifteen,
a hopeful congregation bought a very old church. 
This very old church had a very tall steeple.

In the year two thousand and sixteen
Audi carefully explained to his local constabulary 
that the sounds emanating from his trailer park home
were indeed music and not some large furry animal in heat.

In the year two thousand and twenty four,
the towering stone steeple of a church 
designed by Architect Leopold Eidlitz
toppled with a horrendous crash
taking down beams, shingles, bricks 
and possibly an innocent pipe organ. 
The letter written in eighteen fifty one 
outlined the inevitably of this disaster,
and the reasons for it. 

Audi had seen a lot of monuments fall
in his short time on this big blue ball. 
He'd seen some deities come and go. 
He’d seen the brightest minds and dullest dullards
all with ambitions and hopes,
based on a future than never came, 
built from ideas that slipped away like a clever quip. 
He was dwelling on the fallen steeple 
and the hubris of the people that worshiped beneath it. 
They had a dream so grand that they named their settlement 
after one of the biggest cities they knew.

There’s footage of the steeple falling
but that doesn't express the end of the story
marked with the giant hole where the music
and the message once emanated.
He tried to fathom the very moment of failure.
What would it sound like?
He was almost finished with his cigarette 
when a pigeon shit on his head.
