I'm looking for gold here, hidden in dem grains..... searching for my sound.

East London based DJ/producer Bailey Ibbs has been making waves over the last year, building a reputation as one of the most exciting new artists coming through the UKG scene. Running the party series Night Service, he expanded the brand earlier this year with the launch of a label platform. The first single ‘Romantic’ by Bailey himself was picked up by Jaguar for her BBC Introducing Dance show. For the parties, they’ve booked Jossy Mitsu, Eliza Rose, Kobe JT, Picasso, and Izco as well as teamed up with Keep Hush for special events. Whilst further afield on the DJ circuit Bailey has supported the likes of Paleman, Stenny, and Kurupt FM. 

Throughout lockdown Bailey has kept up his relentless work ethic, producing a collection of bass-heavy tracks which was released last week on Bandcamp in order to raise money for a charity close to his heart which will help fund research into Battens Disease and help support the families affected.

DRBAGAIN11 sees the reissue of one of our favourite Breakbeat / UKG releases from the illusive X-Ray on the impressive Pulse Recordings. Originally released at the turn of the millennium the record features four sub heavy grooves across different moods. As always all tracks have been licensed and remastered for the occasion.

Ambient soundscapes, dubbed out chords and swirling arps: Subtle Oscillations is a compilation of blissful sonic textures from a collection of up and coming producers associated with the Size 13 collective.

Opening the EP is the luscious and dub infused “Candle Lit” from Manchester producer 4TGANG. The soothing vocals and gradually building percussive elements of the track leave the listener in a state of euphoria.

Tortuga, co-founder and resident of Size 13 follows on from Candle Lit with a 7 minute journey of sound. Ambient breakdowns and wonky synths can be heard alongside the constant flow of running water on this one. 

Reaching the energetic climax of the EP, Still Sinking is a deep and wobbly breakbeat grooves, with chopped vocal samples and melodic synth chords to accompany the shuddering bassline.

Persona Audio takes on the 4th track with “Midnight Express”. Atmospheric pads and soothing chords over a brilliantly programmed house beat, this tune is a perfect tune for the end of a set/ the after party.

Closing the EP, Gibbin’s “Butter Knife” is a downtempo stroke of genius. Sharp synth lines and syncopated drum beats have seen this tune picked up and played by DJ Python and Ciel.

For our first mix of 2021 we are joined by the Swedish badman Toof. We were lucky to meet Toof back in Berlin a couple of years ago for Operates party at Griessmühle. Toof has been flying the international flag for Garage out in his home of Stockholm with a string of events for Garage Sessions and his new Project The Bloc. Over the past couple of years he's been working away in the studio with a number of quality releases on Dimsum Records, Ec2a, and his own project The Bloc. 

It’s a privilege to have Toof on board for an hour of shuffley delights across the board, proving that UKG isn’t just a London thing anymore.
