UK Techno stalwart Mark Broom returns to Rekids Special Projects with the fourth instalment of his ‘Mutated Battle Breaks’ series. 

Following the third volume of ‘Mutated Battle Breaks’ released in July 2022, the UK-based DJ/producer Mark Broom returns yet again to Radio Slave’s techno-focussed imprint for his fourth collection of essential, hard-hitting club tools. Delivering another full-blown set of eight belting tracks for the series, Broom again shows that he’s a true Techno tour-de-force. 

Releasing on labels such as Rekids, M-Plant, and Blueprint, the wildly prolific Broom has consistently been at the forefront of the techno scene for decades with his gritty, groove-based output while, away from the dancefloor, his The Fear Ratio project with James Ruskin continues to win critical acclaim.

Glasgow-born Gary Beck is a primary figure in techno and has been for well over a decade. Dropping seminal underground classics and cultured full-lengths on an array of leading labels, as well as his own BEK Audio imprint, he has also led the way as a revered DJ as his legacy continues to build. Now, adding to his standout ‘Upside Criminal’ EP as well as his well-received track ‘Fold’ on the ‘Federation Of Rytm III’ VA, he returns with a record that has often featured in both his and Mutual Rytm boss SHDW’s sets, stepping out on the label’s Spectra series with a cut that has long been sought-after by those who know.

A spontaneous studio moment turned club weapon, the timeless ‘Hopper’ merges a syncopated disco bassline with subtle nods to funk and classic dancefloor energy. It’s one of those tracks that lingers in your head long after the night ends – a pure embodiment of Beck’s raw energy and production finesse built on an infectious groove full of contrast and character.

Bulgarian synth wizard, hardware genius and tireless innovator KiNK delivered Spectra’s inaugural release, so he lands as the perfect person to remix. His first interpretation stays close to his roots with a house-leaning, slowed- down take that channels warmth and groove in equal measure. On the B2, however, he flips the script with a high-octane fusion of techno and UKG. It’s a peak-time anthem engineered to ignite dancefloors and closes out a standout EP with the third release in the Spectra catalogue.

Having taken somewhat of a backseat for the previous two Beard Man releases, Mark Broom returns to his own label with a new EP in May. 'Sixty Six' also features remixes by the Amsterdam based duo, TWR72 and Germany's Patrik Carrera, plus a new version of last year's 'M19'. Of Broom's new tracks, 'Sixty Six' is a jumpin' groove-infused number that brings a touch of the Chicago to a Techno dancefloor; bright and infectious, while 'Quantique' conveys a similar Chi-drive, but is rippling with denser Techno layers. 'M19 Version' offers a fresh take on 'M19', the opening track on last year's 'Neon EP' (BEARDMAN 17) which picked up huge support from the Techno fraternity, plays on BBC Radio 1 and Data Transmission's Single of the Month amongst other accolades. TWR72 are known from their tough, stripped-back releases on labels like Turbo, Planet Rhythm and their own Float Records. Here they give 'Sixty Six' the stomping treatment in typical style, while Patrik Carrera, whose 'Eik EP' came out on the label in March (BMD016) takes on 'Quantique', delivering a deep and minimalist remix....
