Sobolik (they/them)

Sobolik is a Queens, NY producer and DJ who's turned heads over the past several years with futuristic club cuts on labels like All Centre, Kindergarten, 3024, early reflex, and CloudCore. These tracks have been supported by DJs across scene and genre boundaries—modern techno shredders like VTSS and CEM, hyper-club divas like Morenxx and Ariel Zetina, colorful percussion wizards like CCL and Rroxymore, and UK bass stalwarts like Lee Gamble and Anz alike have shared Sobolik's work at parties around the globe. Sobolik's world is filled with color and hyperkinetic energy—not fitting in one box, their output reacts to a broad palette of styles within both North American and UK club music. As a member of the Antidote and Kindergarten collectives, they work to connect these dots among likeminded artists in the Brooklyn rave ecosystem. They currently hold a Lot Radio residency with the Kindergarten crew and co-organize Antidote, a queer day rave whose previous bookings include DJ Voices, Russell E.L. Butler, Sister Zo, and Ron Like Hell.

"This mix was improvised in a single take from my new bedroom in Ridgewood. It starts neat and tidy and steadily unspools until a critical moment breaks the sound apart completely. It cuts through many compatible styles; elements of rolling dubstep, old-school techno, jazzy broken beat, smoked-out tech house, and modern perc steppers enter the fray...... until the cool rolling mood gives way for something more indefinable. Many thanks to georg-i for sending me an unreleased showstopper that provided the final climax :)"

"This mix is my approach to an atmospheric opening set, beginning with a passage of ambient music and gradually moving through downtempo breaks, elegant tech house, hypnotic techno and more, culminating with an understated 135 BPM banger or two. I performed this set live in San Francisco this past Friday and re-recorded it at home after listening back and making various tweaks to improve the flow. I'm quite happy with the result! 

Shout outs to my good friend Pressing from San Francisco for turning me on to "Aqualung" by Spooky, which can be heard in this set."
