Slow Drift’s debut single evokes nostalgia through its lyrical imagery and warm, swirling synths. ‘Oblivion’ plays like a scene from a memory just under the surface, suddenly come to life.

Slow Drift formed in the shadowy depths of the north Atlantic Ocean when a body of cold arctic water met the warm tropical gulf stream. The resulting undercurrent along with the immense pressure at these depths created a delicate blend of electronica and synth pop which drifts to the surface in the months of September to April.

All Slow Drift music is recorded at a depth of at least 250 meters to avoid saturation from sunlight. Songs recorded at the surface will tend to be more distorted. The only researchers who actively record this phenomenon are Jenn Steeves and James Askwith. Some believe the phenomenon is an elaborate hoax and music is actually recorded by conventional means in a bedroom studio, with Jenn responsible for vocals and James responsible for instrumentation and production. But this is adamantly denied by James and Jenn.
