I recorded this Soundscape in the village of my childhood, in the backyard of my grandparents house. My village has the tradition to celebrate the last day of the year with the "Goat dance" or "Caprița" as we know it.

The Caprița dance is a pagan shamanistic Tradition in which men, girls and boys, dressed up, with drums and brass instruments wander through towns and villages playing their traditional music, as one or more of the men, dressed in a stylized goat costume, performs a sort of goat dance trying to channel the goat spirit through sinuous movements.
The goat dance marks the winter solstice and is a symbol of good luck and prosperity in the year to come.

What you hear is the fermentation of all of that.

Days before New Year's Eve, people used to knock a whip, producing little explosions like fireworks. Unfortunately this old tradition is less practised nowdays, because you can easily find fireworks almost at every corner.

10 a.m. Bacau, Romania - Alaiul Datinilor

People from all over the Moldova Region, come to Bacau city to show off their own traditions, songs and dances. Everyone is wearing a costume and is making a different kind of noise. The result is an explosion of colors and noises through the city.

In Sarata small groups of people gather together and go from house to house to perform the "capra" or "bear" dance and to  wish good luck for the upcoming new year.

FEST(iv)A(l) di Via Balilla 

Via Balilla is a small street in Rome where people gather together once a year to celebrate the local community.

Back in the days the street was famous for containing within it, apparently, several conflicting living realities such as prostitutes, single mothers, transsexuals, drug dealers and traditional families.

It all started in 1993 when the inhabitants decided to meet and get to know each other better. 

Everyone brought what they could; chairs and tables, typical food and drinks, music and games.

Since then the community has grown and has become an example of civil coexistence.

The annual festival is there to remind us the power of a good  inclusive community.

Cali, the salsa capital of the world, becomes a total different city at night. It seems like everyone just woke up and started to dance, sing and have fun in general.
In this recording you can hear different parties from different locations melting together with the city's sounds creating an unique soundscape.
