History Of My House - Chapter 4 - 17-09-22 (90's Club Classics)

Dream Magazine was launched in 1995 covering the UK happy hardcore rave scene. By mid-1997 the magazine had diversified to cover other styles of dance music and also had a mix-CD on the front every month, typically featuring happycore, old skool hardcore, D&B or trancecore. The magazine shut down in early 1998 but relaunched as Dream UK Magazine in October of the same year, still with a monthly cover-disc, but only lasted for half a dozen issues.

Me and my Twin Brother were partial to a bit of Drum & Bass, we weren't it to any where near the level of our beloved Happy Hardcore, however we always appreciated a quality set when we heard one, Hype was the man for us, his scratching was unreal and his track selections were always on point, special mentions to Brockie & Kenny Ken as well, who are superb DJ's. It was a nice treat to get this absolute monster of a set on the front of Dream Dance Magazine, Wildchild does an amazing job on this, her mixing is spot on & it was nice to see a female DJ get some well deserved plaudits, as it was a very much male dominated scene back then, much more than now. Rap, Kemistry (R.I.P.)& Storm were really the only mainstream one's I can think of off the top of my head (I'll happily be corrected though)MC MC on MCing duty is as awesome as you'd expect, one of the taglines I always remember from Dream Dance Magazine was when someone said that MC MC is so good they had to name him twice always stuck with me that. Him and Stevie Hyper-D (R.I.P.)were exceptional on the MIC and really did enhance the music to the next level. This is an awesome CD and well worth checking out.

I first heard this when David Morales played the loft of MCR’s Paradise Garage in early 93 – became a defining club track of the year –>>>> this is the import 12” promo  

•	Deep Inside – Hardrive
A total classic from the streets of New York – Masters at Work at their best. This is the original 12 > with graffiti art cover!  
  
•	Barbara Tucker Beautiful People – original MAW 12 
That sample, from this track >>> Barbara Tucker used to host a Wednesday night jam ‘Beautiful People’ in midtown Manhattan >>> this is the original MAW mix. Tenaglia played this as his end of night song when he first played Space Ibiza terrace. Worth checking CJ Mackintosh mixes – but they weren’t til 94! 
 
•	Michelle Ayers - Respect (Def Classic Mix)
David Morales played this in the basement of the Hacienda during it’s 11th birthday party, at around 4am :0)

•	Masters at work – I Can’t Get No Sleep – original 
This version is slightly different from the 12 inch (which came out later in the year). Taken off a very rare early MAW double album, one album of beats + hiphop, the other deep house + garage

•	Masters at work – I Can’t Get No Sleep – MK Dub 
This is a cracker of a mix – dig the pianos – as played by David Morales in the Hacienda basement... 

•	Bjork – Violently Happy – MAW Dub 
This sound is – for me – the early 90s sound of downtown New York. BBoy beats, weird off key organ/synths, detached vocal samples, hip hop snares – Canal St mixtape vibes...nod ya head to the Trackhead!

•	Dont wanna play house
I bought this Nervous Records comp in New York in 1994 – a time when you just couldn’t get certain music without going to where it was from (you take it for granted now that you get a copy of any track on Beatport!) 

•	U2 – Lemon – David Morales Mix 
Another defining track for me from 1993 Gunchester. Played everywhere at the time, that bassline knocks you sideways. For weeks Graeme Park would end his Hacienda Saturday nights with this + a Brand New Heavies track – Back To Love >>> at which point we all got a bit bored of it!

•	Sunscreen - Perfect Motion 
One of those time & a place tracks. You should check out other Sunscreen tracks, very reminiscent of the UK house sound at the time. Love the bassline.

•	Todd Terry – KMA 
A white label I picked up in New York – Todd is God! 

•	Cajmere – Brighter Days – Todd Terry Dub 
BOOOOOOOOM!!!! If you don’t own this, you can’t call yourself a house DJ. Fact.

•	Everybody
Taken from the Nervous Records album I mention above – high hats workin it! Very New York 

•	Jaydee – Plastic Dreams
Come to the dark side! I first heard this at the Hacienda 11th birthday party – Frankie Knuckles played it in the main room around dawn >>>> light was coming in the windows in the roof.... I could tell this was on another level  

•	Factory 
I bought this in downtown New York. The Factory? After hours club Sound Factory – which at the time defined a tribal / after hours / dark house vibe. Junior Vasquez would play 1am – 1pm, working 3 versions of a track over a half hour period, looping and adding effects BY TAPE! The Sound Factory was in the meat packing district of NYC – which is now all cool > THEN it was a dump, haunted by transvestite street walking prostitutes and drug addicts! Hurrah!!
