Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. This is our full inbox from the week beginning Mon 29 November: from Friday afternoon you'll be able to hear our shortlist and pick your favourites on this week's Listening Post which will appear at freshonthenet.co.uk/batch428

If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Christmas songs and the like are also not eligible for the Listening Post, although we will collect these into a playlist that will be published on 24 December.

“‘Return To The East’ is about going back to your roots, back to simplicity and in turn overcoming doubt, reclaiming personal identity and finding clarity and strength in who you are. 

It was written during a visit to my hometown of Montrose, on the East Coast of Scotland. I was on a bike ride towards Lunan Bay on a sun-drenched day when I entered a deep reflection triggered by the landscape around me. The sea, wild grasses and ploughed fields transported me back to my childhood. I was not long out of university at the time and was trying to find my feet, figure out who I was and what I wanted away from the external noise of city life in Glasgow and the influence of others.”

Return To The East

This is the third chapter from my upcoming album, Hearts Get Started. 

This album is a collection of songs written over several years, some of them being my oldest. It feels a little like a puzzle, with each song being its own world and story. When you put them together, they are stepping stones along the way of my musical adventure. I like to think of it as a prequel to our first album Disco Lasers. It's all the music that got me to that point.

Eugene Twist, the Scottish singer-songwriter, returns with a captivating new track ”Sea Captains”. Drawing inspiration from his recent relocation to the south coast of Sweden, the song delves into the transient nature of life and the ever-changing landscapes around us. Building upon the rich and organic songwriting that has characterised his previous albums, The Boy Who Had Everything (2012) and The Stuntman (2017), Sea Captains offers a refined sense of space that has evolved over time and through his production work with other artists. His signature attention to arrangements features here with lush strings and horns sounding across layered vocals. Eugene describes the song as “inhabiting a metaphysical place somewhere between the bleak Scandinavian haar and the stories that drift into the ether”.
