Five months of digging, cutting, adding, and tweaking later, it feels ready to share.

Don’t expect the familiar. This is for the risk takers, the ones who look for reward in the unexpected.

Swagger, nomadic chords, lush layers -  all tangled into a story that doesn’t play it safe. Push play.

Killer Instinct: I loved putting this one together, and I think you’ll feel it when you press play. Fun, sharp, full of twists.

The idea was simple: an up-tempo, uplifting ride through sounds and voices, from the familiar to the hidden gems. You’ll hear Scratch Perry (who shaped Bob Marley, The Clash, Beastie Boys), Manu Chao, and Argy’s Tataki.

It opens with a brilliant bootleg of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game, pushes through layers of rhythm and surprise, then lands in one of my all-time favorites, King Sifiso’s afro-melodic cut at 1:40. The close is Julien Jabre’s Swimming Places (Purple Disco Machine remix), a classic that never lets go.

Heart of Sun is a culture-twister — weaving melody, rhythm, and voice into something that feels both familiar and strange. It’s less a collection of tracks than a story, one that moves through intrigue and lands in joy.

The spark came from Kerala Dust, whose opening track sets a mood that lingers. From there the mix drifts through layers of melodic progressive sound, unfolding piece by piece until it feels inevitable.

Make Believe Train Party (Live Set)
A summer-drenched fusion of deep, tech and uplifting house. Recorded live by Groove Nomad at the Make Believe Train Party, on a hilltop hideaway overlooking the serene beauty of the Cape.

The opening track, You Want It Darker, is a rare mix by the genius Leonard Cohen. This set was recorded and released just four days before his passing on 7 November 2016. If that doesn’t give you shivers or goosebumps, nothing will.

This event will stay with me. It started with a hangover from the night before as we caught a train from Cape Town Station to the venue near Simonstown. But the energy of the party took over and the hangover vanished fast. The vibe was so good we couldn’t say no to the after party, which meant another all-nighter and, yes, another hangover on Sunday morning - Ouch

The journey kicks off with an acapella from Jim Morrison, then moves straight into the first half of the mix, which is eclectic with percussive filters, tribal influences and brilliant progressive techno. This sets the tone for the second half of the mix, which gathers momentum, grabs you, and never lets go.

If you’re in the mood to move your feet and feel energised, crank it on whatever system or headphones you have - crank it to the max! You can always repair the speakers later.

Cascading Colour
This remains one of my favourite albums. I’m a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, having seen him live in South Africa, Dublin and Milan, so opening with Trentemøller’s remix of State Trooper felt right. It sets a darker, atmospheric tone that threads through the mix.

From there it shifts through minor chords, filtered basslines and summer-drenched vocals, building layer by layer.

The ending is everything: Sasha’s Every Love That Ever Was, a classic that still shines!

This mix leans into contrast, where indie grit meets deep electronic flow. It kicks off with a rare bootleg of The Smiths that grabs attention straight away. From there, it winds through darker, sharper edges of tech and progressive house.

By the time James Yuill’s This Sweet Love closes it out, you’ve been pulled from the unexpected into something deeply familiar. It is music for late nights, high volume, and losing track of time.

We kick off with an accappela from 70’s indie band Grass Roots which ebbs straight into a deep house classic by Ornette. 
The album then progresses and winds its way through multiple layers of disco and indie infused funk culminating in one of my favourite tracks of summer  2019 " Camelphat – Rabbit Hole" at 60:04. 

The lead out is outrageous and will keep you wanting more.
