Even the overnight shift offered a producer/board-op and permitted considerable latitude to demonstrate personality. News anchor Nic Rogers and I approached it as 'afternoon drive' in the middle of the night.

Every so often the PD of the co-owned oldies station would need a weekend shift filled, so I'd strap on the headphones and fire up the Four Tops. As a goof, I slipped this aircheck into that year's AIR Awards submissions ... and it wound up as a finalist. (Fortunately a legitimate Majic 102.7 personality, Joe Johnson, scored the trophy!)

I always felt I was born about ten years too late. This is the style of radio I just missed; a composite of our short-lived 'Friday LITE Fever' retro show. Obvious nods to my buds Ken Cocker, Kris Earl Phillips and J.J. Marshall (and tribute to two masters I never met: Jim 'Captain Whammo' Channell and Big Ron O'Brien).
