The first couple Max D releases, like ’09-’10, were issued via RAMP Recordings (somewhat of a dubious label in terms of payout, Ras G (RIP) called the owner dude Suge White a few times and…ay, truth is truth). One of my many sick label mates on that situation was PUDGE, and I remember hearing something of his and just pursuing everything else possible. This is from those deeply important LA 10”s that All City put out in 2009ish. The tightest sloppiness, unreal to me at the time. Still hits so hard.

This is perhaps my only example of “discovering” a song via the normal method that this mix-series focuses on, like Shazam etc. I actually have never had Shazam on my phone, but asked somebody in the car I was riding in to find out what this was. My parents listened to Rufus & Chaka growing up, but I was not hip at all to this utter banger. Embarrassingly, I even already had the record at my house, just hadn’t ever peeped this song, like a dum dum.

Max D’s mix for us is largely an ode to the DMV in the decades spanning the late 1990s to the early 2000s. Similarly to the label curation of Future Times and Max D's collaborations, the mix is stitched together not by a certain sound, but by memory, feeling, and an essence of funk across genre. Cascading, loopy jazz, DC radio station-honkers, and quintessential go-go, among other tunes, await inside.

Mor Elian: Twilight Hour - 05 September 2022

Moiré is perhaps one of the most criminally underrated producers of recent times - yeah we said it. 

Around 2013 his music began to bubble within certain circles - weird, mutant off piste bass inspired music with nods to the likes of Basic Channel, tape culture and beyond. It was at times Dubby, at times Housey and at the same time never necessarily fit into any one place in particular. 

He was championed and supported by the likes of Actress and released EP's for Ninja Tune, Werk Discs, Rush Hour and many other prominent record labels.

However, in part to his mysterious persona, Moiré didn't go on to the rapturous heights expected of a musician so clearly and blatantly talented. Not one to 'play the game' so to speak Moiré was happy to let his music speak for himself without the bravado or 'bullsh*t' which often comes with an industry which revels in hype.

Instead, quietly behind the scenes, he continued to hone his craft releasing a number of records and albums on the likes of Ghostly International, Hypercolour and Spectral Sound.

His most recent release came in the form of a new album for Avenue 66 - an exploratory journey through IDM inspired sounds based upon analog modulation and circuit loops - hence the title 'Circuits'.

It was an ambitious project for a producer keen to challenge his own limitations in his use and approach to hardware and instrumentation.

The result? A killer assortment of pensive, thought provoking electronic sounds that's all too easy to get lost in.

Anyway, we invited Moiré to record a mixtape for us, we should have really asked before.

Heaven is in You began as an intent based project in wide ranging exploration of the world and our own being. Now defunct, ADAB once curated the Cleveland based Heaven is In You parties alongside colleague Eric Sarley (Ghost Noises) for what became locally known as a labor of love in sonic variety. The sentiment finds itself resurrected here for ADAB's monthly transmissions.

Transmigration means to pass into a different body after death and in terms of the labels policy it does just that, it takes something passed and gives it a new lease of life. David Fogarty aka Louis Satori has carefully curated the identity of his imprint using sounds of the past and with the name sake of the label, keeps that mind state in play. Fogarty has reissued such artists as Susumu Yokota(under his EBI alias), Drum Club, Alien Mutation, Downlink and more and this has seen these releases pass into some of the biggest DJ names giving them even more exposure that they may not of had the first time in some cases. As expected with such deep rarities given second life can only be exposed by someone who deep digs. Having played all around Berlin and recently after making his debut in Berghain we are honoured to have Louis Satori take over the Off The Record mix for a cosmic selection of EBM, industrial, ambient, acid and more. We had a quick chat with Fogarty about the label, Susumu Yokota and what he has coming up.

previously available only on the club’s patreon, this is now public for everyone to enjoy. created for Virtually Nowadays at the beginning of the shutdown in April 2020 the movie was created by Jay Ivan as we drove through the empty streets of the NYC area, he filmed with a handheld DSLR and then aligned the audio after editing. 
programming this mix was emotional..i did my best to hopefully help people process positively while enjoying a "dance music mix" during a time of overwhelming uncertainty.
