Heaven is in You began as an intent based project in wide ranging exploration of the world and our own being. Now defunct, ADAB once curated the Cleveland based Heaven is In You parties alongside colleague Eric Sarley (Ghost Noises) for what became locally known as a labor of love in sonic variety. The sentiment finds itself resurrected here for ADAB's monthly transmissions.

Friday morning, @jakemuir opened Hemlock Hole with an absolutely spellbinding morning ambient set. The 'Jake Fan Club' were front and center with a comfortable chair in tow. This wasn't a 4x4 dancefloor moment and those who didn't know quickly understood the magic that Jake was creating. It was a beautiful way to start the day and we are grateful for Jake's ability to generate such a special atmosphere.

Masa is originally from Japan but resides in NYC and is studded frequently along the lineups of NYC parties. I saw Masa open the main stage room at Sustain Release in September this year and his set was one of my favourites of the weekend. He's definitely one of those DJs who has mastered a massive range of styles and genres, with this mix a perfect showcase of his fluid but cohesive style and vast and impressive collection of music. It had me dancing down the street when I listened for the first time :')

"When I imagined the interception of this mix by a sentient intergalactic being, I wondered - how do we decipher the language of music? Would the sound of a human voice be perceived as the voice of the dominant species. Or, perhaps, would the sounds of the drum machine be interpreted as the “voice?” What does voice and language mean when spoken through music? 

While there are major differences in the style and teachings of musical traditions around the world, the use of voice and rhythmic percussion is present across cultures and throughout history. In this context, is rhythm truly the universal language? 

I have always been interested in the use of voice in dance music - the way it brings an organic familiarity to a technical genre. For this mix, drew from various sources and genres - both voice-centric and rhythm-centric to weave a melodic, deep, and genre-twisted story. I recently discovered konnokal, the south Indian art of performing percussion syllables vocally, which really inspired the concept and helped me think about rhythm in a new way. The mix opens with a reverbed out recording of Sheila Chandra, an English pop star of Indian descent, performing konnokal. The mix is rhythmic, yet meant for listening and the experimental nature of this project encouraged me to use 3 CDJs and run a delay pedal through my mixer for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!"

They are affiliated with the collective, secondnature, and have worked on a breadth of projects ranging from underground parties, to community-centered events, and educational workshops. Musically, they are drawn to texture, melody, and voice and the ways in which these things are expressed through technology-driven genres with a focus in techno, breaks, and ambient/experimental. Their DJ and live sets are playful, genre-bending, and expressive.
