Rumors Mix Series #082: Elysium Alps

this mix is a tribute to the first online video game i ever truly loved, guild wars 1. my love for gw1 stems from many things, but the SOUNDTRACKS (<333 jeremy soule) are one of the main reasons. my mix takes some of my favorite soundtracks chronologically from the game’s 4 campaigns and throws in tracks / artists that i associate with that era in gaming. for some reason, running around the crystal desert and listening to avril lavigne will be a memory that’ll stick with me forever. i wrap up the mix with the juxtaposition of the theme of the gw1 factions campaign next to the theme of the latest guild wars 2 expansion, end of dragons (both take place in the same region, but 250 years apart).

the mix is called cynn’s lullaby for a few reasons… because i’ve gone by the name of cynn on online games for 16 years(!!!), because i drew that name from an iconic guild wars 1 character, because guild wars 1 and its soundtracks have given me comfort and joy for many, many years. my identity as ‘cynn’ goes beyond guild wars 1, so i plan on continuing this mix into a series that involves other stunning online video game soundtracks and also involves what constitutes my ‘irl’. for a while now, i haven’t totally connected with my given name, but i always connected with ‘cynn’, albeit in pixelated fantasy worlds. there’s so much worth trying to pull from fantasy into reality, and i’m thinking that includes ‘cynn’ <3
