Erin grew up in the midwest in the 90s, isolated from the rave scene but having a chance discovery of Warp Records and adjacent UK dance music via the internet in their teenage years. In the blog house era of 2007 they started playing a monthly party in Madison, WI, which led to a brief residency at Smartbar in Chicago before moving to NYC in 2009. This move coincided with a growing musical dissatisfaction. The scene they knew felt and sounded increasingly vapid and commercialized. At this point Erin took a long hiatus from DJing and instead focused on showing up to parties in order to listen, both figuratively and literally. It wasn’t until 2014 when they first attended Movement in Detroit, and more specifically No Way Back, that they started to find their place in it all and the sounds that still move them today.

In the years between then and now was a winding path through many cities, scenes, and parties across the globe in search of a more complete picture of a community that resonated. Time was spent in LA helping with the Acid Camp parties, and another 2.5 year run in NYC which led to a deeper love and connection to the house & techno music scenes there via The Carry Nation and The Bunker parties, among many others. All of these influences helped them find their footing and in 2018 they attended Honcho Campout for the first time. This contributed greatly to a decision to move to Pittsburgh in 2020 at which point all of these experiences started to coalesce into who Erin Platner is today. Alongside the quick adoption of a new home came the desire to share who they had become, musically, back to the dance music communities that had given them so much. This is the sound that comes through today in Erin’s mixes and DJ sets.

“This mix is my attempt to tell a story about the past five to six years of my life. A period of major upheaval, loss, learning, forgiveness, growth, and ultimately celebration. It touches on some of my most cherished influences during this time, specifically in New York, Taiwan, Berlin, and most importantly my adopted home town of Pittsburgh. It’s a tale of accepting pain, leaning into the difficulty of moving forward and being vulnerable, coming out the other side to tell the tale, and ultimately coming back to the dance floor to absolutely lose it to great music surrounded by friends. Thank you for listening!”
