Hey ya’ll hey!

Thanks for tuning into Episode 63 of Tellemtiptoldyou—"A Tribute to Dark Man X.”   I had to make some scheduling adjustments to today’s episode.  Originally, today was supposed to be a Midlife Musings episode with Brandon, but instead word about DMX’s death moved me to upload this episode.

Shortly after recording, I learned about the lynching of Daunte Wright at the hands of police just around the way from Derek Chauvin’s trial and it all became a bit too much for me.  I contemplated scrapping this episode too and trying to get something—anything—up about Wright’s murder.

As you can see, I decided against that—not because Wright’s death doesn’t deserve and episode (because it certainly does), but because Black life has to endure even in the face of tragedy.  If our work stopped everytime one of us was murdered, we’d get almost nothing done.  AND, Earl Simmons (DMX) deserves his tribute.  He deserves our attention—perhaps now more than ever.

So this episode remains as it was—dedicated to the life and legacy of DMX.  We’ll talk about Daunte Wright next week (and we pray there is no further tragedy before that).

Ep 73 Can I Love On You

I think such grooming happens not only by the predator, but also by the seemingly  “innocent” folks and practices that continue to silence victims through their own actions and behaviors.  In this episode, I tell a bit of my own story and how it has made me reflect on how we define family.

Ep 78 Omicron Mutual Aid And Web 3

Can you believe the prosecutor in the Ethan Crumbly case is catching some heat for filing charges against his parents?  In my opinion, this is just evidence of the failure of some folks to take accountability for their actions.  And speaking of accountability, did you see Travis Hunter’s statement on why he chose Jackson State University?  It’s a beautiful statement and really sparks some pride in the heart of this HBCU prof!  There’s a change afoot, and I’m happy to see it.

On the macro- and micro-levels, we fall victim to someone else's agenda when we seek their validation and valuation.

In this episode, I share why as long as we seek to be validated by someone else, we'll fail to witness the genius of our people.

I'll share how the terror attacks in Buffalo and Texas reveal anti-Black and anti-Latine violence as well as how the words of politicians reveal their own anti-people sentiments. I'll even talk about Juneteenth and its similarity to Memorial Day as I argue that external validation has cost us with these holidays, too.

Ep 97 Alien Self, Anti - Self, And MisEducation

Thanks for tuning into Episode 98 of Tellemtiptoldyou—"Colonialism, Scarcity, and Tools for Liberation.”   The world is a dumpster fire right now.  If you are a person that believes in humanity, social justice, and equity life has been pretty rough lately.  In this episode, I want to share with you how this season has plagued my joy and left me in a valley.  However, I also want to share that by their very definition, valleys always have a way out.

I’ll be honest.  Things have been challenging for me.  In fact, I’d left behind some of the tools I’ve used in the past to bring me back to center.  But things are getting better and I want to share with you the tools I’m using to claw my way out of my own foolishness.

Ep 98 Colonialism, Scarcity, And Tools For Liberation

Between Dr. Claudine Gay’s resignation, Dr. Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey’s untimely death, and Florida’s permanent ban of DEI on college campuses, this year has already shown itself to be one for which we must be prepared.

Unfortunately, at the same time we need to have our best thinkers reasoning through strategies for collective Black freedom and wellness, we are offering seeing a general disregard for intellectualism.  For Black folks in particular, this is a dangerous road and we must not travel it alone.
