This track is my rendition, a remix, of Jacob Haynie's "Sci-fi Dream". I added in a few bass lines, drum tracks, and a melody to help give life to a potential direction I thought the original track could've taken. I made use of techniques such as Sidechaining, frequency automation, Auto Filter, Multiband Dynamics, adjusting volume through Utility rather than the "Track Volume" automation.

Multiple samples of Tierra Whack  Pretty Ugly extended cut with the addition of a mellotron track created with a Les Paul Custom/EHG C9 Organ Pedal recorded directly to PC The mellotron section includes a backing of a slowed sample of the opening piano riff. In addition the riff is also sampled, speeded up, duplicated and reversed as part of the intro. The vocal sampled with added reverb and hyper extended with pitch correction and phasing to add crashing wave and harmony effects,

Decided to download Komplete Start, and have been messing about with some of the sounds it comes with. Unfortunately, most of those experiments went basically nowhere, and I had to find a new idea to work with. Found a good piano in Komplete Kontrol and went from there.

The intro up to the tempo shift is pretty much final barring some sound adjustments. Everything after that is rough and incomplete. Don't know where it will end, but it will go somewhere.

I like this I think i need to read more about chords and fix them up a bit and make the focus change from the five bare repeat to the Chords more dramatic. The chords originally had really harsh attack but that was mitigated with an auto filter. I fill like the voices and ocean sounds added for the third and forth sections was kinda a cop out but I like it anyway.

Unfinished (HW8 WIP)

It is finished. It is final.

This track is comprised of five instruments: piano, synth bass, synth strings (as a pad), synth bells, and a drum kit. The piano and bass are the Atmospheric and Growling Bass presets from Komplete Start, respectively. The strings, bells, and kit are Off World Strings, Brushed Bell Hits Bells, and the SessionDry Kit. There is an additional track for crash symbol audio, which I used for the reverse crash and to deal with some odd trigger issues with the drum kit I'm using.

Most of the mixing was dynamics and sidechain, with a small amount of reverb, delay, and filtering added for taste. With exception to the drums, every sound is supposed to be soft and just gel together.

The general idea behind this track was to make use of non-common times. I experimented with this once earlier in the "one drumset" assignment, but now I have melodic instruments to help separate the time signatures better. I have technically succeeded (the best kind of success), as the majority of this track is in either 12/8 or 7/8. (There is a single transition measure that's in 8/8. You may think that's just 4/4, but it's not, and there are several music theorists willing to fite you if you disagree.)

I also wanted to utilize tempo changes, since they're pretty uncommon in our class. The automation in the Master channel in the picture is a snippet of the tempo modulation.

I wish I had access to a good set of brass samples in Live. Could have used a brass section in some places. I have a bunch for DirectWave, which is an FL Studio plugin, but would have needed to shell out $100 for the VST version of the plugin to use them without having to manually recreate every instrument in Live.

Final

This is my final assignment. I implemented some guitar tracks of me playing through my kemper amp. One of the cool things I did was that I played slide guitar through my pedalboard and my amp and I reversed it and pitched it up to get that cool kind of vocal effect. I made this sound a pop songs of what you would hear on the radio today and what's on top 100 billboard in the U.S. This was a fun assignment. I used mastering and mixing techniques such as send and returns as buses to mix music and percussion level. I also used mastering tools like compressors and limiters on my master channel and also on specific channels like the kick and etc to smooth everything out. I kept the time at 2:31 because this how long a common track on the radio/top 100 billboard would look like today. Hope you enjoy!
