The Gold Star parents of fallen U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan, were in the Bay Area this weekend to attend a fundraiser with hundreds of other Muslim-Americans. Khizr Khan and his wife Ghazala rose to prominence after an appearance at the Democratic National Convention last year where Khan sharply criticized Donald Trump’s presidential campaign promise to ban Muslims from entering the country. Labor Union Members Split From National Leaders on CA Democratic Primary Endorsement

A group of protesters convened in front of the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco in support of the ongoing demonstrations in Hong Kong. The demonstrations are against an extradition bill that they say violates human rights, and they are calling for the resignation of Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam, among other demands.  Congress passed a bipartisan “Stand with Hong Kong,” resolution, condemning police brutality against the protestors and supporting their pro-democracy efforts, but it is unclear whether president Trump will sign the bill. He said that it may compromise a trade deal with China. Pacifica’s Saadia Malik files this report.
