The song itself was inspired by a painting by Marc Chagall who (as you probably know) depicts many ‘floating figures’ and often uses a predominance of blue in his work. The lyrics in the English version are rather enchanting and more romantic in nature. But the literal translation from Italian is an account of a lucid dream in which ‘a man is floating high above Earth, in the blue sky, with his hands and face painted blue.’ (www.saberitaliano.com.ar/songs/46.html) Just another way in which this episode and your birthday celebration were all about the heavens. :-) I love how you came full circle here and ended at the beginning. But now, I can’t get that song out of my head or stop picturing you as an infant, crawling on the carpet and bouncing along with the rhythm. ;-)

MARTIN PAGE, who hails from Southampton, England, first gained recognition as a songwriter in the early 80’s with Top-40 hits for Kim Carnes and Earth, Wind & Fire, among others.   With Bernie Taupin (whose usual partner was Elton John), plus Dennis Lambert & Peter Wolf, Page wrote “WE BUILT THIS CITY,” a worldwide Number One Hit for 
Starship (their first) in 1985.  Page and Taupin returned to Number One the following year with “THESE DREAMS,” recorded by Heart (also Heart’s first chart topper).  Teaming up with Peter Cox and Richard Drummie of the UK group Go West, Page wrote “KING OF WISHFUL THINKING,” featured in the movie “PRETTY WOMAN,” which became a Top Ten hit for GO WEST in 1990, and “FAITHFUL,” another hit for Go West.  With Robbie Robertson, Page penned the critically acclaimed “FALLEN ANGEL,” featured in Robbie’s first solo album.  Page has also written for, produced, had his songs cut by, and/or otherwise worked with such artists as The Commodores, Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones, Paul Young, Earth, Wind & Fire, Brian Ferry, Phil Collins, Josh Groban, Colin Bluntsone, Robbie Williams and Elaine Paige, among many others.
