This is such a beautiful song; one I've been meaning to try for a while and was recently reminded to do so in memory of a dear friend and brilliant musician. It has posed endless challenges, least improvising over 96 bars! Not my idea of fun!  So this is just a fun recording of me playing around to find some ideas for development (and to remind me of the bits which work and which don't!). To be listened to as a 'work in progress' and not a finished recording! But the song itself is worth sharing...

For me, this song is more about Randy Newman than Disney. I've always loved his creativity and musical style. He may not always "sound" like he's hitting the right notes, but that's part of his charm, and it works. Hopefully, I've been able to channel enough of my own "inner Randy Newman" to capture the essence of the original. 

Oh, and as for the title, the sentiment is true....You've got a friend in me. :)

Hooked up with my friend Jamie today to work on some music and at some point I started singing this tune. We both looked at each other and said, I really wanna do a re-edit of that, so we had fun for a  few hours extending bits, finding random vocals from the film, putting some filters on and a few random additions etc...I dare you not to sing along :-)

This is the piano part only from Down in New Orleans, by Dr. John.  This is from the Disney movie "The Princess and the Frog".  The music was well done in this movie, and I like New Orleans jazz, so I had to learn it.  I have so far figured out the piano and vocal parts.
