8bit style 33

Happened across this simplistic but beautiful-sounding piece. Had to recreate it. This time around, I wanted to try to see how simple I could go with this project; this piece only uses 4 fingers at any one time, so I figured I could use the MMC5. The MMC5 expansion allows 2 extra Pulse channels similar to the 2A03's default Pulse channels. I fiddled around with an instrument file I've used before to make it sound a bit more like a piano or at least a stringed instrument. Hope you enjoy it!

Mother 3- Alec's Log House On Famitracker (2A03 + VRC6 Chip)

I debated uploading this because I didn't like how it sounded. 
I finally settled on using some mild effects in Audacity to make the VRC6 sound a bit more like it has the SNES decay effect. 

I fell in love with this track a few years ago during the Quarantine, and it helped lift my spirits a bit. The game isn't my type of game to play, but man this game has no business having awesome music in it.

Prophecy- The Secret of Mana on Famitracker (2A03+VRC6 Chip)

This has been a hard song to recreate! I really wanted to learn how the N163 chip works. It's taken me since before 2018 when I originally found Famitracker to figure out how the darn thing actually works! I'll link some Youtube videos I found that really help in explaining how the chip works because it shouldn't have taken this long for me to learn to use it. 

I also couldn't figure out how to get Famitracker mods to work on my machine, so I literally had to use 2 separate projects so I didn't have to use all 8 channels for the N163 chip in addition to the VRC7 (Long story). I mastered this in Audacity due to how pitchy the VRC7 chip tends to be unaltered, as well as to allow all the channels to sound decent together to get it close to the original!

Secret Of The Forest- Chrono Trigger On Famitracker (2A03 + N163 + VRC7 Chips)

Hey again. Still practicing the N163 chip. I'm getting the hang of using instruments and channels in Famitracker while using the chip, but I have yet to figure out how to make my own instruments. Mostly, I get my instruments either from my attempts or the inactive Famitracker Forums. The N163 chip uses an ENTIRELY different method of instrument making. So. Expect a few more N163 chip stuff until I figure it out. 

I almost didn't remember to put in that really quiet violin in the background of this, but I think I managed.

After some encouragement from the great folks on the Famitracker discord, I made myself finish a project that I'd been delaying working on; this song is my first real original. 
This song has been in the works for MONTHS, which is why I haven't been posting of late. Sorry about that. Guess I needed that kick in the rear to really get going. 
Expect some more originals from me, though not very soon. I need to work on them!

Actually, I had this on the back burner for some time now, and only just got around to finishing it. DN-Famitracker is a nice advancement from vanilla Famitracker; I highly recommend using it.
This song is a great meme. Figured it deserved a cover at some point. I know I'm not the first to do it lol.

I meant to post this last month, but I finished another project prior to this one. 
I wanted to test out how good the DN-Famitracker's N163 emulation was: long story short it's really good. No more hissing and pitch higher tones that make most n163 chip covers hard to listen to. 
So of course to test it out I use a Bach song! Everything you hear is rendered from DN-Famitracker. Even the reverb, which took me forever to figure out.

Honestly, I feel really iffy about how this one turned out. I prefer my Dealing With A Devil cover by a long shot, especially since that one took only a day to start and finish while this one was a bit of a challenge. I feel like that one was also a bit more inspired creativity-wise.
Oh well, at least I've finally started to figure out how to use sidechaining as a mixing tool

Hey. I've been busy lol. 

I also didn't want to get burned out with making this stuff. I took a break to take care of some personal shenanigans as well as to learn more about what it is I want to do with music.

Vinylcheese is a guy I've been following on YT for years now, and I finally started to understand the N163 chip a bit better because of his absolute genius when it comes to that chip. I borrowed a snare DPCM and the N163 bass from him. You can hear the bass in his Yogurt Yard video on YT. I'll link his channel. Go sub to him, my man really deserves more attention.

Mother 3- Mind of a Thief on Famitracker-Dn (2A03, VRC6, MMC5 and N163-1 channel)

I'm not really into RPGs, but man do they have some great music in them. I stumbled across FF6 a few days ago, and the music is stuck in my head still. That, and Nobuo Uematsu is a legend, so I guess that explains it. I tried really hard to mix this right because Dn-Famitracker gives me a hard time when exporting more than 1 extra chip's worth of WAV files. I haven't touched FT in a little while, so I'm a little rusty atm with making stuff in it.

Battle! Klara [8-bit; VRC6] - Pokemon Sword and Shield

I wanted to do this for a while now, but I didn't like how sharp the 2A03 chip's Pulse was at a higher sound. I found an Organ instrument for the N163 chip, and it was a lot softer (and didn't have the typical "interference" that the chip is known to have). 

I thought it slaps with some drums in it.
