Amanda Meggison won the women’s category at GSER100 in 2017 in a time of 47 hours 10mins in her first 100m mile race. She shares the highs and lows of her race and how she prepared for it. Amanda also has a plant-based diet so she shares her advice for any ultra runners who might be considering a plant-based diet.

Anne Mackie is a quiet, polite and mild mannered women with the courage and tenacity of a lion. She won her age group at GSER100 in 2017 in a time of 52 hours 21mins. Anne is also an older athlete; she was 62 at the time of the race. We discuss age and the advantages it brings to an event of this scale and what advice she has for older athletes who might be considering entering the GSER100.

Cathy Duffy finished 2nd in the women’s category at GSER100 in 2017 in a time of 49 hours 15min in her first 100m mile race. We discuss the highs as well as the challenges she faced (which included forgetting to refill her bladder with water at a checkpoint). Cathy is also a mum of teenage children and works full time so she shares how she manages to fit her training into her busy life.

In November, 2017 a group of adventurous rail runners set out to complete the inaugural Great Southern Endurance Run 100.

The GSER 100 - as it is known - is the hardest 100 mile trail race in the Southern Hemisphere and the 5th hardest in the world based on elevation gains.

In 2017, it took the runners from Mt Buller in the Victorian Alps to the town of Bright, a journey of 182km with over 10,00m of elevation gain and 11,000m of descending.

The grit and determination it took participants to finish was nothing short of extraordinary and the experience along the way; priceless.

We wanted to find out why someone would sign up for this race and how they did it.
