Love International Mix 005: Horse Meat Disco

Lil Tony is a big part of the Finnish scene and revered name on the international circuit. Back home he runs some of the city’s key venues, such as Kaiku, and while on the road he spins well informed sets of house and techno influenced by the American Mid West, but that also expend to take in disco, soul, electro and more. In the studio he turns out slick tracks for Innervisions, HPTY and Mood Music, is part of the Nuspirit Helsinki collective and is all set to play at Dekmantel Selectors this week hosting a boat party with Kaiku. 

Now, he steps up with a mix consisting 100% of Finnish music mainly from the eighties. It touches on  disco, new wave, ambient, soul, Italo, electro, funk and boogie and paints a vivid picture. “I want to give special thanks To Mikko Mattlar, Perttu Häkkinen, Joshi, Pirkka and Juha Mäki for helping me find some of these gems,” says the man whose hour mix starts icy, atmospheric and melodic before slowly thawing out. As the drums appear and the melodies get more cosmic, you begin tapping along then the diva disco vocals, big synths and retro grooves all sweep you away into a world of proto-house and pixelated chords that are brightly coloured and unashamedly fun. Solid Steel (23rd March) This week, we're delighted to welcome Tama Sumo and Lakuti on Solid Steel, having just returned from gigs in South Africa. They step up with both delivering a superb mix in each hour and describe it as;
“A musical journey into spring, taking in some deepest of house cuts, afro beat, jazzy at times, gospel and beyond. Sit back and let the music move you.”

In Hour 1 it's Tama Sumo, the Berghain/Panorama Bar resident who started out in 1993. Since 2001 she also played regularly at the Dance With The Aliens party at the old OstGut, Berghain's predecessor club, which eventually opened the door to a residency at the new Panorama Bar & Berghain shortly after the club opened. She developed a varied style ranging from House, Disco, Techno, a smidgen of Detroit Electro and Pop. At the beginning of 2008, she released her first record. Both tracks, “Play Up” and “Brothers, Sisters”, have been produced in collaboration with Prosumer
Music featured in her mix includes tracks from Space Jam, Timeline, Bayara Citizens, Javonntte, Twice and Peven Everett & Stacy Kidd

Next up to go DTS, we are delighted to welcome a young and up and coming selector, by the name of Renata (@renatamaris). 

Renata is a London-based DJ, mostly known for her eclectic sets playing across a spectrum of genres from house, jazz to afro, psych and electronica. 

A regular at various venues including Spiritland and BBE Store along with music festivals like Houghton, Gottwood and Love International.

We came across a couple of mixes online and were confident that she could curate a nice little selection of music to suit our vibes!

For her invitation to head DTS, Renata has kept the selection on a housier tip and doesn't mess about with the quality of tunes selected; letting the tracks do the talking as they should do!
