When I see cantera or other stones of volcanic origin, I am always intrigued by the thought of the processes which have led to their structures a long time ago. The contrast between the peaceful existence of a stone just sitting somewhere and the raw power of volcanos makes this especially interesting. My sonic contribution to this exhibition by studio davidpompa us not a scientifically or historically correct one, but rather an artistic one driven by imagination. What could one experience if we were able to survive between magma chambers? 

The sound composition I made oscillates between phases of high activity with magma bubbling inside the earth and stones cracking under high pressure, and phases of constant sine waves representing the frozen state of volcanic materials. This cycle skips the moment of the actual explosion and draws an imagined direct line between what is happening below the surface of the earth and what can be seen and used by humans above the surface. This sonic perspective seeks to bring closer the material’s richness and history in a more tangible way.
