Peace Where Do You Dwell

A single movement work for Concert Band. The Memories referred to in the title are those of the composer just coming out of an emotionally difficult period of his life. There is the wish that things could have been better, the disappointment at not knowing what to do to make them better, and the cautious curiosity of one struggling to maintain his usual optimism while trying to imagine what the near and distant future will hold.

In The Wake Of Memories

This is a work for symphony orchestra. It is titled after the musical interval of a seventh, on which the entire piece is based. It is in three main sections. It begins featuring the winds, followed by a strings only section, and concluding with an exciting ending drawing on the full resources of the powerful orchestra sound.

Three Pieces for solo clarinet in Bb

A contemporary string quartet for advanced and professional musicians. The four movements are Andante, Adagio, Vivace, and Allegro. The first is energetic, with driving rhythms and dramatic dissonances. The second is a four-part fugue, the third a scherzo, and the fourth a pulsing, folk song featuring driving syncopations. The third in the "Loud Whispers" trilogy, this one has a sway to it except when the conversation between instruments becomes animated enough to obscure it. It starts and ends uncertain of where it is, but has a lot of fun in between.

Loud Whispers No. 3

This is my latest musical work. It combines several jazz and dance styles into a party atmosphere where at times multiple jazz cultures can be heard partying all at once. Standard jazz band instrumentation minus piano and plus flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and French horn. Sheet music will be available soon at JWPepper.

The inspiration for Light In A Suit for concert band came from part of an article written by a friend about her spirituality and her work as a Human Spirit Guide. Here is the excerpt from that article that shaped my music.
Each one of us is a light body. On top of that light body is a human suit. And that human suit is really great at storing things: emotions, stories, drama, memories, experiences, knowledge, identities, habits, patterns. the more stuff your human suit collects, the more hidden
our light body becomes...and the more we forget our light. That's why we do healing work. Not to cure our physical bodiesof ailments, but to remove the layers of humanity that aren't ours to carry so that we can each reveal and remember our light.
