PLYNTH were up and running as a live band from 1997-2001. In that time, we recorded several demos, gigged constantly in London and elsewhere, and then independently released a CD album. Our track ‘Mr Wardrobe’ was featured on a compilation album of new London bands of the time, released by indie label Streamline records. 

Featuring the vocals of Rosie Taylor, the drums of Paul Gray, and the all-round instrumental prowess of Chris Dyble, PLYNTH began writing and recording new original material during the Covid 19 lockdown. Our approach to song-writing differs from many other bands in that the songs begin with drum parts and the rhythms of the lyrics are then worked out to fit with the drum ideas. A huge influence on us was Rush, the great Neil Peart famously saying, ‘there’s a relationship between drums and words that is often overlooked, as words have rhythms just in the same way that drums do’. Another big influence were the heavier American bands such as Pantera, drummer Vinnie Paul was also quoted as saying, ‘you can pretty much write a song on the drums if you are imaginative enough’. Once Paul Gray has recorded the drum tracks and established the rhythms of the lyrics, Rosie Taylor then comes up with the vocal melodies. Rosie’s vocal style is very much inspired by singers such as Dolores O’Riordan, Sheryl Crow and the choral vocal layering of bands like Evanescence. Following the creation of the vocal melodies, Chris Dyble then writes and records all the music, drawing on guitar influences like the dark, heavy riffing of Tony Iommi and the fluid melodic solos of Ritchie Blackmore. Finally, the recording process is completed with Rosie Taylor recording the full vocal tracks with several layers of harmonies. Chris Dyble then mixes and masters the songs which are then uploaded for you to enjoy here on Soundcloud.

We hope you enjoy our new tracks. We have more in the pipe-line and are also planning to re-record selections from our first album with the better production which recording technology currently offers. Stay well!
