Well, my good friend Paco dropped me a note to say he had a piece of music to which I might like to try and add something, were I so inclined.  Always a good day when that happens.

Now, I can't honestly recall the precise sequence in which the neurons fired inside my skull to yield the result we have here, but we are where we are as they say.

Don't go looking at me for rationale.

Thank you, Paco, as always my friend, for inviting me to come out to play, and for mastering the end result in the midst of untold techno-horror grief.  I hope your DAW world resolves itself very soon.

I lie bewildered, here, in my sphere of cubes,
On crushed silk cushions sprawled.
I sketch the cool Palladian dudes
In charcoal, on Aleutian walls.
They think I know what thoughts are theirs,
And beg to trade their graceless airs, 
But I left them there to climb their stairs
Ever downward through Athenian halls.

They say my knowledge is remiss,
The diabolical's back in town.
Seems ignorance is bliss
For this philosophical clown.
I'm seeking emptiness of mind,
That's where I hope to find

He suffocates but bestows his shame
On city states whose statutes fog
The heads of people in their ranks
Attentive on the Eridanos banks

As justice shreds its cogs.

"Lost in the Static" - Finding Voice in the Void

"Lost in the Static" emerged from one of those darker periods when everything feels like white noise - when you're going through the motions but can't seem to connect with anything real. The song captures that hollow feeling of being surrounded by constant stimulation but feeling completely empty inside.

The lyrics came from a place of genuine struggle - "Waking up to concrete skies / Another day that feels the same" - that sense of urban isolation where you're part of this massive system but completely disconnected from it. The "static" represents all that background noise of modern life that drowns out any sense of purpose or direction.

What makes this track different from my earlier work is how the heavy metal sound serves the emotional content. At 140 BPM with distorted guitars and that aggressive, driving rhythm, the music has this relentless energy that mirrors the internal chaos the lyrics describe. The melodic chorus provides moments of clarity in the storm, while the heavy breakdown in the bridge - "TELL ME WHERE TO GO! / WHEN THERE'S NOWHERE LEFT TO RUN!" - captures that moment when you're screaming into the void.

The stadium rock elements give it an anthemic quality because even in isolation, there's something universal about these feelings. The song acknowledges the darkness but refuses to surrender to it entirely.

Working with AI to create the foundation allowed me to achieve that perfect balance of raw aggression and emotional vulnerability. But the final magic happened in the mixing stage - I brought all the stems into Reaper for the final mix, where I could really sculpt the sound and add the crucial finishing touch: that actual radio static fade-out at the end. That authentic static wasn't just an effect - it was the perfect way to literally end the song lost in the static, completing the emotional journey from chaos to silence.

"Lost in the Static" is about being lost, but it's also about still being here, still making noise, still fighting through the interference to find something real on the other side.
