As soon as I heard it I got inspired - and it was perfect since I've been wanting to make a song with this kind of bassline for a while now. I kept as much stuff from the original song as possible, changing it only a bit. This was an absolute blast to make.

Pizza Tower's soundtrack has been a HUGE influence lately. I've been paying attention to how some of the songs on the OST develop, how some of the songs take 1 section and keep  developing it, giving it time to sizzle, adding new stuff only when it's needed (don't preheat your oven, wudpecker, dungeon freakshow). I tried to mimic that here, giving the A section much more time to build than I usually would before moving on to something else.

No Choccy (Chocolate Challenge)

Made for round 1 of the 6th beepbox discord tourney. The prompt was to make an environment theme for a 'windswept ruins' setting - cliffs high above the ground, rope drawbridges across chasms and ancient stone structures all around.

I went for a bluesy pokemon mystery dungeon feel and used a bunch of samples from the game. Also birds. Birds sound so cool. Sometimes.

Way Up High

Made for round 2 of the 6th official beepbox discord tournament. The prompt was to capture the emotion 'overwhelmed', and the bonus challenge I went for was to only use 4 CHANNELS in beepbox.

Here is a summary of the description of the song I gave to the judges: 

Towards the start I was going for a more emotionally overwhelmed, hopeless vibe. The FM lead was inspired by Spelunky 2's cosmic ocean since that's a ridiculously hard challenge - and a bit of Celeste. Towards the middle I went for a more physically overwhelmed feel, channeling extreme danger and panic.

I spent too much time on this one considering how little time we have to work on them. Somehow it worked out, and I even managed to make Halfway There too while this event was going on. This is the most beeps I've ever finished in a short time period.

I made this for round 3. The prompt was: Calm before a big showdown

I think this one ended up sounding more like 'tale of a cruel world' from terraria calamity mod - more sad than threatening. It's still tense though so not too bad. The strings and piano come from pokemon gen 5 samples.

Li'l Squid Guy of Death [Gartic Beep]

Made for round 3 of the 6th beepbox discord tournament. We were tasked with making a character theme for either a good, neutral or evil character, based on DnD alignment charts.

This meant we had to write a bunch to explain the context of our songs to the judges. I've put the lore together with the song pastelink if you're interested.

The short version of it is that this song is about a dwarven inventor named Yoltz, and his story of settling into a new town, becoming a hero, and eventually leaving it for the last time.

The Waltz of Yoltz

For the 6th and final round of the 6th beepbox discord tournament, I teamed up with Yuck31 to make this 7 minute long masterpiece, which got a perfect score from the judges.

It's a remix of Skee.c's Molten Maelstrom, turned into a final boss theme against the monolith, now featuring references to Yuck and I's submissions throughout the whole tourney.

Funkety Monkety

Beepcord tourney 6, round 5. Prompt was to create a song based off of 1 of 5 images! 

I picked the stormy one shown in the thumbnail and went for a 'journey to the final confrontation' kinda vibe. It's cutoff here, but the image shows a dark blue sky off to the right that hints at the location being a summit. 

Since my songs for previous rounds were interconnected by motifs and pmd instrumentation, I decided to create a story using references to them. I referenced mind bloom to show what the (hypothetical) player had overcome, way up high to remind the player of everything they've seen so far, and finally a callback to yoltz's motif with a dark twist to remind the player what's at stake...

It had a twin brother that i was working on, but it didn't have an intro or ending, and writing a song backwards was really hard and annoying for me.
