The  sound  of  wetting  the  earth

As  the  raindrops  make  a  whop  to  step  on  the  ground.
Whip,  Whop,
It  seems  like  they  are  fighting  each  other,  but
The  raindrops  meet  the  land  differently  at  different  places.
As  I  hear  the  sound  of  raindrops  stepping  on  the  ground,
I  think  the  raindrops  of  felled  later
then  the  first  raindrops
are  giving  more  peace.
If  each  other  takes  care  of  my  country's  interests,
by  oppressing  and  threatening  other  countries
there  is  no  choice  of  wetting  other  lands
but  to  make  the  land  barren,
If  we  can  hold  peace  and  rain  toward  each  other,
This  country  wets  the  land  of  that  country
Our  country  wets  your  country's  land
It  could  be  raindrops.
I  heard  the  raindrops  falling,
People  are  living  differently  too.
It  seems  like  they  are  trying  to  become  raindrops
that  are  falling  toward  each  other.
Even  between  countries
towards  other,
I  wish  it  would  be  raindrops.

빗방울이  앞  다퉈  땅을  밟느라
투덕투덕.
투덕투덕하는  것  같지만,  서로
다른  곳에서  다르게  땅을  만나고  있다.
대지를  밟으며  내리는  빗방울  소리를  듣고  있으니
나중에  내린  빗방울이
먼저  내린  빗방울보다
더  많은  평화를  내려주고  있다.
다른  나라를  억압하고  압박해서
내  나라의  이익을  챙겨오려면,
서로가
메마른  대지가  될  수밖에  없지만,
평화를  머금고  서로를  향해  내릴  수  있다면,
이  나라가  저  나라의  대지를  적시고
저  나라가  이  나라의  대지를  적시는
빗방울이  될  수  있을  것이다.
빗방울이  떨어지는  소리를  듣고  보니,
사람들도  그렇게
다르게  살아가지만
서로를  향해  떨어지는  빗방울이  되려는  것  같다.
나라들  간에도
서로를  향해
빗방울을  뿌리면  좋겠다

This is a traditional song from Myanmar sung by the very talented Jack Sanga. We have transcribed it and put it into a choral setting so we can use it with the Blackbird Leys choir in the Christmas Oratorio. The song is about a beautiful part of Myanmar where people are oppressed by the military dictatorship.
