Evocative memories of Indian train travel, especially chai service and samosas in all the stations.  An original song that I wrote as a protest against a commercially made little tea bag of "chai" that I got served at an Indian restaurant in N. America.

Everybody Loves My Baby

A vintage New Orleans ramble written by Kid Ory in 1926. It was first recorded on February 26, 1926, by Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five and was their most popular tune.  I used my old upright piano, cornet, baritone and clarinet.

Muskrat Ramble

I used digital piano, melodica and accordion on this one, plus voice and cornet.  The Spanish words have a completely different meaning than the English ones.  It isn't a translation.

Yellow Days

Another early ramble, a staple of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. I used my old upright honky tonk piano, cornet and baritone.

Tailgate Ramble

Written by Isham Jones, lyrics by Gus Kahn, and was published in 1924. I learned it when Joe Brown sang it and played his ukulele at a memorial concert for George Harrison in 2012.  I've used my digital keyboard, melodica, cornet and baritone.

I'll See You In My Dreams

"Any Time" is a country song written by Herbert "Happy" Lawson in 1921. First recorded by Emmett Miller for OKeh Records in 1924, but Lawson recorded his own version for Gennett Records on July 31, 1925,  accompanying himself on ukulele.
It's the first song I ever built by stacking tracks on Audacity, early in the days of covid-19 self-isolation.  I can't remember whose version I had in my head.

Any Time

My only completely a capella song, for now. The Golden Gate Quartet sang this in 1940, I think. I heard it as a child and it stuck in my head. I've done three voices but I don't have a bass. I may have sung it around a campfire with my family as a kid.

Swing Low Sweet Chariot

May 2020.  My "Pandemic Pastime": I've always preferred playing live with other people, but during self-isolation I used an old computer to learn a new hobby, stacking tracks on a free Audacity sound recorder.  I play all the different instruments and do all the vocals and harmonies.  My equipment is basic: I run a stage mic into my keyboard amp, and use the stereo headphone line out to my computer.
