I’m Max and today I’ll be singing about a boggart. This feels rather
natural to me. In recent years, my writing has been focused on hidden
spaces where materials mingle. Most of this has been as part of the
band Garden Centre. We were formed so we could perform an album about
abandoned plant nurseries, scrap yards and the parts of the beach
where interesting waste usually washes up. I’m fascinated by the
‘spaces in between’ where material journeys indeterminately influence
each other.

The Greyhounds original setlist explores Anne Briggs’ original and iconic recordings and endeavours to honour the impact of this momentous catalogue and the traditional songs she revived during her early career.

Mark S. Williamson is a musician, sound artist and educator based in Todmorden, West Yorkshire. 

He made this work as part of CALDERFOLK.

His work is often made in response to his environment, with his most recent major release, Outcrops (by his project Spaceship), being recorded within, and on the subject of, the geology of the Upper Calder Valley.
Mark often works in the field, combining field recordings with electronic and acoustic instrumentation recorded in the outdoors. As well as recording around Calderdale, Mark has also produced work based on his travels around Essex, Cornwall, Ireland and beyond. His 2015 project ‘A Hole in the Ground’ explored the ruins of Royal Observer Corps nuclear monitoring posts while ‘Stone Steps of The Upper Calder Valley’ related to subject matter closer to home.
The forthcoming Spaceship LP; ‘Ravines’ focusses on the steep sided cloughs which line the valley from Cornholme to Hebden Bridge.
Mark has recorded for wiaiwya, Apollolaan, the Dark Outside and his own Forged River Recordings and he was recently a featured artist in Electronic Sound Magazine’s field recording special.
His collaboration with Luke Turner on series of readings from Luke’s book ‘Out of the Woods’ has seen performances at Cecil Sharp House, Port Eliot Festival, The Trades Club, Krankenhaus Festival and the Horse Hospital.

Sophie Cooper is a sound artist who Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (hcmf//) refer to as “A crucial member of Yorkshire’s far-reaching experimental music scene”. Sophie’s practice pivots around new presentations of acoustic instrumentation (primarily the trombone) with electronics, challenging conventions around composition, text placement and performance.
