Abandon all expectations ye who enter here, Other Lands (previous, druid-like incantations on FIREC015 Mac-Talla Nan Creag) got you covered with a truly compelling assortment of jazz snaz and post-armaggedon cosmo-disco oddities; occupying the space between alien-revisited exotica, classic jacking house workouts and a BoC 'Chromakey Dreamcoat' kinda vibe, seemingly elusive at first but definitely familiar to the ears of uncool survivors like you and I. One thing's sure, Other Lands could throw a balearic party at one of Berghain's most secret leather-friendly backrooms that it wouldn't feel out of place. Never mind the weird, inverse sun-tan lines.

FIREC025 Other Lands - Pattern Transform EP

Following up Lou Karsh’s excellent “Ataraxia” EP we’re hitting up Australia once again, such is the level of burgeoning talent down under. This time it’s the turn of Sydney native E Davd. Manu originally got in touch with a bunch of demos just short of two years ago in the spring of 2016, so for once it’s really no exaggeration to say that this has been a “long time in the works”. Only one track from that initial offering made the release and it’s been a real pleasure witnessing Manu’s creative evolution in that time, not to mention the success of his debut EP on Manchester based label, Natural Sciences.

The self-styled Cosmic Healer turns in an EP of similar flavor to his first effort; ice cold pads, hypnotic 303 basslines and liberal use of that 707 rim shot combine to create a record shot through with reflection and melancholy. Tales of lost love and memories past course through every track. Manu sums up the inspiration behind the EP really well, so we’re going to leave the rest of this write up to the artist for once...

Denmark's ØEN REC. are back with their second various artists compilation entitled "Islands in the Stream". The cassette features 14 genre spanning tracks. From ambient soundscapes to acid-tinged belters, downtempo pop-y vocal tunes to downright stompers. This release is meant for the open-minded music lover. It features artists both familiar and new to us with some of the standouts on the release coming from the likes of K-Dallas, Lotte Rose (this one is a particularly striking piece) and of course our own premiere today from DJ Popup.

Neas' New Theme is the title of the mysterious DJ Popup's contribution to the compilation, a name we admittedly have not heard of until we came across this track. Tropical birds and a gentle rolling stream open up the piece as some balmy chords come into the fray. Tough break-y dreams make an entrance with a deep sub bass to go along, inviting a bit of welcome contrast to the warm ambience. The synth work is particularly interesting here with different chords, melody lines and pads all working together to generate an introspective atmosphere. Perfect for listening or playing out, Neas' New Theme should be able to fill a variety of situations both on the dancefloor or on the home stereo.

Close to me I watched the people come and go from the empty bar, they would walk through the illuminated door before observing the bleak and lonely scene with a sense of melancholy and sadness. The night outside was cold and harsh yet in here it was warm and welcoming. If only the rest of the world was simply able to see...

This one is beautiful. No Really. Guaranteed summer bliss reminiscent of the Italian dream house era for the present. The guys from Craigie Knowes found Paolo on Youtube jamming out on some rare hardware and this is his first release. Wow.

Kicking off the debut release of his new Ancient Astronauts imprint, Lone has put together a stunning three-track EP titled 'Abraxas' - named after the satanic horn that appears in Nicolas Cage's new cult film Mandy' - that's packed with 303 acid experiments and electrifying breaks.

This aptly titled EP is the debut release on the newborn label Sofia.  Founded by Strahil Velchev and Konstantin Petrov, Sofia is not only the physical location where this music was made, the city where they met and developed as artists, but also a paradox that is reflected in the art and music that comes from the place. Beautiful and ugly at the same time, clean and dirty, brutal as well as romantic, it’s a place where aesthetically seemingly incompatible styles come together in a twisted, yet unifying form. The photographs for the sleeves are made by influential local selector DJ Valentine, effortlessly capturing the local reality.

Those pieces of a paradox also are reflected in the music. The typical fine-grit of KiNK’s production skills meets his love for the elements of surprise and the classic building blocks and plaster of house and techno to create something that is very much his own, while breathing the spirit of early days and pioneering times. Hinged just before and after peak time, the tracks on this EP are cohesive, made to last and rounded off by the contemplativeness of yet another collaboration with Rachel Row called „The Beauty“. The first of many to come.
And as always: Remember the future!

Julien Veniel aka D’Julz celebrates 10 years of his influential label Bass Culture Records with a 10 track compilation packed with 10 new tracks showcasing the label's signature deep and driving house sound.

Rounding out the release is 'Synchronicity', a deep and moody house cut produced by the label head himself. Here D'Julz dips into the smooth and sophisticated side of his sound profile, delivering warm and enveloping melodies wrapped around a driving 4/4 rhythm. Pure bliss on the dancefloor. 

The '10 Years of Bass Culture' compilation, which also includes tracks by Mr. G, Leo Pol, Sebo K, Franco Cinelli and more, is released via digital outlets and in three vinyl volumes November 29.

The Prague-based record label, Harmony Rec. welcomes Shoal, a rising star from the vibrant Dutch scene for their fifth release. 
Isotoop resident, Kenny Kneefel aka Shoal, presents four deep cuts in his Laogan EP, which are groovy, layered with undertones, and mesmerizing sequences. 
Our pick for today ‘Between Thoughts’ is perhaps the most delicate track on the EP. Atmospheric pads, layered with subtle chords and driven by low pitched toms, and gentle congas, make this track an excellent asset for warm-up sets. 
Laogan EP is coming out via Harmony Rec. on April 3rd

A dead calm had invaded the night. The temple’s music and the perfumes had already faded in the air. I arrived at the oasis in the dark of night, standing in soft, fresh sand. Finding myself in a kingdom of silence. Sotis had just made its appearance in the sky and was showing itself timidly to the world.

Fascinated with the sight, I once again started thinking about my unknown origins and the reason why I, Kalila, was at that place at that moment. A memory. The Priestess at Hathor's temple. The glass flask. I put my hand in the pocket of my tunic and with surprise found a small flask filled with a red liquid. My head started throbbing wildly, eyes closing for the pain and the priestess's bright face appeared in my mind telling me

“Drink and you’ll come to life again.”

I drank. Feeling my body slipping and melting with the sand underneath. A vortex of feelings and memories wrapping itself around me. I knew who I was. I knew what I had to do. Akhet had finally come.
