El cul de les fades

In the mid 90's, when the underground techno virus infected Barcelona, Imperator was injected with poison.
He started partying at clubs, afters and free parties and once he bought his first records, he didn't stop.
He couldn't. Till now.

Linked to some of the most memorable (and crazy) tribes and collectives of that time, he was everywhere, becoming a kind of "enfant terrible" of the scene whatever was mixing, dancing or just listening.
After two decades, his eclectic collection of vinyls remains as effective as ever, shooting hits and rare anthems of cosmic, wave, electro, acid dreams or italo-disco. His sets are like an unpredictable jukebox, always energetic, bizarre and physical. If you let him spin the first record, you're lost.

Something is gonna happen.

El Valle De Los Ojos Abiertos Remix

For RA.1000, DJ Sprinkles' first mix in over a decade is a powerful meditation on the genocide in Gaza.

Dance music often relies on simple narratives: release, escape, unity. But those narratives can often feel inadequate, and even at times, hollow. Or, as Terre Thaemlitz might bluntly put it, just "shitty."

For her first mix in around 15 years, Terre Thaemlitz AKA DJ Sprinkles, challenges us to think differently. "I felt this 1000th podcast should reflect the moment in which it was made," she told us in her Q&A.

And what is this moment? Every day since Israel's 2023 assault on Gaza began, an average of 28 children have been killed. That's an entire classroom, every day, for over 600 days (at the time of writing). It's a staggering figure that only captures a fragment of the listless cruelty imposed on the strip.

Faced with such a genocide, what can music really do? How political can it truly be?  For their RA.1000, Thaemlitz gives us an unflinching rebuke to the idea that music should provide escapism. The mix weaves ambient fragments and jazz passages, woven around samples from Israeli media and the voices of outspoken Jewish critics like Gabor Maté and Norman Finkelstein. 

The result is not just a protest, but a document of our time. For Terre Thaemlitz, music is never just music. Her RA.1000 serves as a reminder that in an age of relentless suffering, the most political act is to reject the illusion of escape, and search for something greater.

urpa i musell, es el sello llevado a cabo por Ignasi Molina junto a Gerard y Arnau de Discos Paradiso. Como era de esperarse, la juntada de 3 pesados en esto, no iba a ser nada menos que una genialidad.

Si hay algo que destaca a urpa i musell, (sin mencionar obviamente la exquisita curaduría con la que cuenta), es la estética. 

Donde se puede apreciar un trabajo casi que obsesivo, pero que deja a cada release como una autentica obra de arte.

El mix en palabras de Ignasi :

"Uuu-uu" es simplemente una selección de discos editados en España (todos menos uno, la excepción que confirma la regla), la mayoría de ellos encontrados en tiempos recientes viviendo en el extranjero. Esto supone para mí una mirada y una forma diferente de hallar estos discos. Antes sobretodo encontraba los discos y ahora también los busco. Da igual que sea en un sentido u otro, ojalá la selección refleje un poco lo imprevisto en mi relación con los discos.

Urpa i musell (meaning Snout and claw in Catalan) is a record label conceived – almost unconsciously – throughout the years during long lunch time conversations – meals, drinks, coffees…even the occasional shot – at Discos Paradiso, a record store in Barcelona.

This project, initiated around a table by Arnau, Gerard and Ignasi, is made possible thanks to the artists, friends, collaborators, acquaintances and even strangers with whom we have shared, currently share and will share this initiative. Thanks to all of them!

As a label, we want music that we love to be made available to everybody. It doesn’t matter when or where it was recorded, although we do admit to have a particular fondness for music made locally.

We hope that you will all enjoy the result of our work as much as we enjoy the process of putting it out.
