From Salta La Macchia, the victorious horse in the Il Palio di Siena on August 16, 1704,
To Antonino Saltalamacchia, who sailed to the New World and made his bones under New York City rooftops —
To me — Joseph Saltalamacchio, a stage performer, medicine maker, and proud descendant,
To my daughter — a teacher, the bell-ringer of tomorrow…

This is our relay song, passed down by hoof, hand, and harmony.

The name Saltalamacchia made headlines as the longest surname in Major League Baseball,
but it made history long before that — on the cobbled streets of Siena, where a wild horse named “Jumps The Bushes” ran to glory.

Our ancestors crossed oceans, laid bricks, delivered bread, sang under streetlights, and climbed up rooftops —
all so future generations could stand under spotlights, in classrooms, on mountaintops... and sing.

Wicaho, a word given to me by friends, means “sound or voice of the spirit.”
