It’s a celebration of breaking through glass ceilings with swagger, grit, and unapologetic strength...

Hannah says: "Writing 'Edinburgh Seven' was my way of channeling the untold, fierce story of these incredible women into something that feels raw, alive, and rebellious. I wanted to capture their defiance in a sound that’s gritty and visceral—imagine Tarantino making a film about their journey, marching through a hostile crowd of men throwing dirt and hurling insults as they made their way down Nicholson Street to sit their anatomy exam. The song is swampy rock with a bite, reflecting their fight for a place in medicine when society tried to shut them out. In writing this, I wanted to give them a voice, honour their courage, and bring their story into the modern world with all the grit, determination, and swagger it deserves."

The Edinburgh Seven

Inspired by the infamous 19th-century Salpêtrière hospital in Paris where Dr. Charcot hypnotized women diagnosed with “hysteria” before audiences of male doctors, the track explores the troubling intersection of medicine, misogyny, and performance. Platt gives voice to the silenced women turned spectacle, exposing how the line between care and control was disturbingly blurred, and how the women were often secretly playing along, with some becomes as famous as actresses of the time.

La Grande Hysterie

Written by Hannah Rose Platt & produced by Ed Harcourt - "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a visceral, industrial-infused soundscape that plunges listeners into the fractured psyche of a 19th-century writer and painter, silenced by a patriarchal prescription: the notorious “rest cure.” With searing vocals and mechanical, driving textures, Hannah Rose Platt resurrects the ghost of a woman forbidden to create, condemned to abandon her art, her words, even the solace of books, in a misguided attempt to cure postpartum depression.
This track is a defiant scream against creative repression, a haunting embodiment of psychological unravelling, and a powerful tribute to those who’ve had their voices stolen. Equal parts gothic and galvanizing, "The Yellow Wallpaper" blurs the line between historical horror and timeless truth.

‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ was inspired by Charlotte Perkins Gillman’s part memoir part fiction novella - about a woman confined to a room and forbidden to write, paint, or read as part of a so-called ‘rest cure’ for her postpartum depression. As she’s cut off from her creativity and autonomy, she slowly unravels, obsessing over the wallpaper in her room until she begins to lose her grip on reality. I wanted the song to feel sonically uncomfortable and claustrophobic, to reflect that mental confinement and loss of identity. I’d love for people to listen, and I really encourage everyone to read Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s powerful, still-relevant story.” – Hannah Rose Platt

The Yellow Wallpaper

"Young Men Need Their Wives" is a raw, empowering anthem drawn from Platt's deeply personal experience of being pressured by multiple therapists and medical professionals to stay in an abusive relationship. The track channels the chaotic, disorienting emotions she faced, blending the raw energy of Sonic Youth's distorted guitars with the soulful, catchy, yet vulnerable sound of The Shirelles. With its rebellious spirit and defiant message, this song is an assertion of independence and strength, turning a painful experience into a powerful call for self-worth and self-liberation.

I wrote "Young Men Need Their Wives" as a fierce declaration that we are all worthy of love that is kind, genuine, and healthy—free from manipulation. Many of the lyrics are drawn directly from the harmful and dangerous advice I was given verbatim by therapists and medical professionals. This song is not just about reclaiming my own voice; it’s also about empowering anyone who has ever felt pressured to stay in toxic situations. It serves as a reminder that we deserve love that lifts us up, and we should never settle for being collateral damage in someone else’s journey.

Originally from Liverpool, now based in Bristol, Hannah Rose Platt is a singer-songwriter with a wild imagination and a wicked ear for melody.


She released her Xtra Mile Recordings debut ‘Deathbed Confessions’ in 2023; a collection of ghoulish ghost stories, melodious murder ballads, and humorous hammer-horrors. Inspired by classic horror such as Rod Serling’s ‘The Twilight Zone’, the BBC’s ‘Inside No 9’, and the balladeer categories of Samuel Peyps. Produced by Ed Harcourt, Platt distilled her influences into a scintillatingly strange album that stood her far from the pack. Featuring the singles “Feeding Time For Monsters”, “Dead Man On The G Train” and the spellbinding duet “The Mermaid & The Sailor”(with Ed Harcourt)’, it received warm reviews across the board and was praised by The Crack as “twelve murder-ballad tales that are dripping in gothic stylings”. 
 
‘Hypnagogia’ swiftly followed; a partner piece inspired by haunting Nordic folklore, the EP comprised four fully fleshed-out songs produced by Ed Harcourt alongside four spoken-word interludes narrated by British acting talent and BAFTA nominee David Morrissey (Sherwood / The Long Shadow). It was praised by RNR Magazine as “something wicked”. 

Touring with Frank Turner, Ed Harcourt, and Chuck Ragan in recent years, Hannah’s live shows are conceptual and captivating in equal parts. Standby for news of new UK shows, very soon…
