This track was a collaboration between me and my good friend Mr. David Keyes. He improvised some wonderful and unconventional soundings on the guitar and I applied some great Guitar Rig 6 FX both some tweaked presets and one of my own as well as some further processing with Cableways ShaperBox 3. I Then with all 6 tracks running in parallel I faded between them manually through several passes and cleaned up the resulting automation.

Ionospheric Interference

Inspired by Surgeon's (https://dj-surgeon.bandcamp.com) recent release "Crash Recoil" I decided to try and make my first "Techno" piece. Is it really Techno? Feedback welcome!

A Darkling Plain

This track came out of a great course that I'm taking on modular synthesis from Sarah Belle Reid (https://www.sarahbellereid.com). One module has you create insect and bird sounds so I thought I'd simulate our backyard garden with insects, birds and other sounds all in VCV Rack. It's mixed in ATMOS and rendered binaurally so for best effect listen on headphones or earbuds!

In The Garden

Inspired by a preset in Arturia's Vocoder V. I created some vocal samples to replace the preset's ones to create this track.

The photo is a closeup of Chiharu Shiota's installation at the 2015 Venice Biennale Japan Pavilion entitled "The Key in the Hand". It's a brilliant piece!

PS I used a new piece of software from LANDR, a mastering plugin that uses “AI”. However it works it’s really useful in mastering!

Past Present Future

Another Vocoder inspired track from a preset that seemed to tell a strange story. I cut it down to two samples and then tried out a simple "Moroder" bass line.

I Don't Like It Here

I listened to a Downtempo Essentials compilation and thought it would be interesting to create something in the genre. Best enjoyed with its namesake!

Affogato

Arturia's Acid V has some amazing sounds. I messed around with some presets and came up with this piece. And named it after the strongest acid...

Fluoroantimonic

Female voice, percussion and a synth it was inspired by a new Arturia preset for MiniFreak.

Ascendance

I was working through Scaler 2's course when I heard a chord progression that I liked. Ended up making a track out of it and a few other chord progressions that I varied. It's not a traditional EDM but it has a few elements and it's much less dark than I usually make - there's actually an upbeat "Chorus".

Surface Tension

I made this track using site recordings that I made at the Venice Biennale this year. Sounds of music, people, sound design. Then I processed them using the free spectral synth software X-Stream by Steinberg (https://www.steinberg.net/vst-instruments/x-stream/) . It's very powerful with lots of options but relatively easy to use. The only sounds I left relatively unprocessed are the spoken words which come from Evan Ifekoya's (https://evanifekoya.com) amazing  piece "The Central Sun (2022)" which my wife and I saw at the Biennale and loved.
