The Blues, and in particular Delta Blues,arose within the harshness of the social conditions generated by class and racial segregation. 
These 14 tracks of which four are self penned, pay homage to the slidin' delta and some of the classic songs from which the blues built it's foundation.The album includes prison songs such as the classic 'Parchmen Farm' and 'Baby Please D'ont Go', as well as Texas and Alabama work songs such as 'Captain George' and 'I'll Be So Glad (when the sun go down)'. The classic 'Prodigal Son' which is based on 'Poor Boy Blues' by the Rev.Pete Williams is also included, as well as Blind Willie McTell's 'It Ain't Long Fo' Day'
Two songs pay tribute to two of the great early performers of blues music. The self penned 'Governor Pat Naff' is a tribute to Leadbelly, and 'Song To Fred' is a salute to one of the great Delta players - Mississippi Fred McDowell. Two McDowell songs  'Few Short Lines' (the opening track on the album), and 'Highway '61' are also included.

Dermot Byrne has been performing the Blues and Roots music for over thirty years. Throughout that time he has played with or supported legendary performers, and gigged throughout Europe and the U.S.A.
