The Hiberno-English painter Francis Bacon (born at 63 Baggot Street in Dublin in 1909) was not unkind or cruel. As the brilliant French philospher Gilles Deleuze pointed out, Bacon's paintings largely express empathy and love for other people. Bacon iterated, in his paintings, 'why' he felt empathy and love for other people. The suffering or disfigurement of other people, triggered Bacon's love (disfigured jaws for example). Love in his case, being a function of the human condition. This piece is for Francis, with love. An important aspect of the role of the artist is to remind us...of the cardinal importance of love.
