Before I get a bunch of cards and letters about how awful the speaker in this song is, I wrote this one at a time when I was having a very intense, but impossible attraction to someone, which could never be and could never even be spoken of the that person. Somehow, writing this song eased those emotions. It’s sort of the opposite of what I could actually do. One reviewer took it literally, back then. Art, it’s not literal, bro.
