Spellbound in Naarm.

Theory Therapy #41 is a spellbinding quiltwork of delicate folk musings and surreal soundscaping by Naarm-based producer Mitchell Reynolds aka Bluetung. 

Sonically, there’s a lot of similarities between this mix and the music Mitch has released, especially last year’s spectral Room Tone Paintings on Altered States Tapes and the kosmische-inspired Music for Our Dying Earth on jpeg. Artefacts. (If you haven’t checked these albums out already, I highly recommend you take the time to do so.) 

Like those releases, there’s an equally unadorned and intricate quality to this recording. As Mitch modestly puts it, “there are a lot of different vibes in here, my mixes are big collages or audio scrapbooks, very unceremonious”.

Hormoneoid JP is a show hosted by Osaka-based DJs Ascalypso and KA4U. This time, we invited GYOKU, a very experienced Osaka underground DJ. Today’s theme is “1£ box (dollar bin) vinyl”. Those 2 heavy vinyl diggers GYOKU and KA4U selected vinyl records that they found from cheap second-hand boxes in the record shops and created amazing sets. The first hour is a mix by KA4U and the second is by GYOKU.

To commemorate Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month (APAHM), two staples of the DC underground team up to celebrate with a stunning 15 hour streamed showcase of DJs and producers of Asian heritage.

With Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month arriving in the throes of a pandemic, it’s important to recognize that the spread of the coronavirus has inflamed racism against Asian-Americans and has lead to an alarming surge in xenophobic hate crimes. It’s more important than ever to proudly celebrate the communities, heritage, and vibrancy of Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander descent.

As COVID-19 collapses club spaces, it also topples corresponding power structures. Washington, DC powerhouses SEQUENCE and Sprüdel are using this interruption in entrenched booking practices to pull together a unique and diverse lineup across time zones, nationalities, ethnicities, and genres to claim digital space with a fabulous lineup highlighting talent of Asian heritage.

The name RAVE LUCK CLUB is a reference to Amy Tan’s 1989 novel The Joy Luck Club, which centers the experience of Chinese immigrant mothers and their American-born daughters. Its complex lessons about family, identity, culture, community, and self-determination are more important than ever during an unprecedented period of unrest and struggle, and are ever-relevant considerations in building vibrant, empowering, and diverse communities and spaces in the underground rave scene.

A portion of proceeds will be donated to our Washington, DC warehouse team and sound system crew integral to the local scene’s current toehold in the District’s underground. The nightlife shenanigans of SEQUENCE, Sprüdel, and many more would be impossible without their efforts.

A further portion of proceeds will be donated to Asian Americans Advancing Justice, an advocacy group calling for civil rights and equality for Asian Americans. The rest of the donations will go out to our artists.

Yeah well that's easy for you to say you don't even like PEZ. What, I'm supposed to just accept that? Well I'm not the one who told you to get into PEZ that was craig anyway. Yeah. Since when? As if you've brought that up; it was 15 years ago and they hadn't even created the PEZ minimax so that's a lie. Of course it is. You show me a picture then, go on. Exactly that's what I said. Yeah well I don't care.
