In a world full of DJ’s & producers, WHY ME?

Coming from the NYC nightlife since the 90’s and holding positions in every facet from doorman to creating and running the global event series “Anti-Social”, which began in a garage turned bar / nightclub in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  After taking the next step of becoming a booking agent, and having a stacked roster of local talent that were monstrous in their own respects, when it came to showcases at other venues, it wouldn’t be right to have any one of them take on the opening duties and dumb down their sound just to provide the beginning to the night…

One morning after working at the door of a Brooklyn after hours, the owner of the venue tells me “you’re going to play my birthday party in a few months so be ready”.  I laughed and said “I’m not a DJ, I’m a promoter”….  Their response was “more the reason.  No one knows what it takes to make the crowd happy, and also how someone should play to their role of the night”.  Fast forward a couple months to the birth of YME? (why me?).  

From primarily taking the role of opener, soon came headlining duties and multiple residencies at after hours and regular hour events.  Honing out the sound, but able to shift and play any genre at any time is a huge key to success.
