This is my latest contribution to the Disquiet Junto. The assignment this week was to use the speech about how magic works from The Prestige as inspiration. So the track had to go from part A to part B and back to A. 

I felt like "B" needed to be some kind of trick, not just like verse/chorus/verse. I hope you can figure out what the trick is and, either way, enjoy.

2 years after, Ivory A Ivy comes back on strecke with Safe, three 4 minutestracks taking their roots in the most significant influences of Gaspard. The pulsating rhythms and melodies are drifting between totally assumed dubstep, trip-hop, trap and gqom. From the high pressure of '4real' - featuring the rapper ViceVice - to the punchy and aerial sounds of Amer Beton, the swiss producer undoubtedly reveals a profound music skill. Deliberately or not, this EP is a romantic voice in today’s post-internet era.

The random number generator selected Michel Banabila's With Orphaned Loop (https://soundcloud.com/michel-banabila/with-orphaned-loop-disquiet-0473-placebo-effect-2-of-3?in=disquiet/sets/disquiet-junto-project-0473).

I felt the piece sounded great already, but there was still room for percussion. I used something spare that I thought fitted the rhythms of the piece, and then introduced small variations, never more than one sound at a time. I added a granular plugin called Zerone which ramps up and then back down to zero in a slow rhythm. There is also a techno percussion loop slowed down to half-time that plays occasionally.

All of that work was maybe a bit too subtle, so as a last step I added a vocal sample from a public domain short film. Using it just once would have felt perhaps too arbitrary, so I dropped it in a second time.
