21-Day Composition Challenge (Day 3, Office Space)

Third day of the 21 days of VGM challenge!

Using the prompt from quest log lvl 4:
To the Skies: This challenge is all about invoking the feeling of flying through the glorious, open skies! Write a flight theme to make the player feel the thrill of taking flight for the first time.

The goal is to write 2-4 bars of music a day minimum to get in the habit of idea generation and not worry about the finish and polish of full tracks.

Day 3 - To the Skies

I'm participating in VGM Academy's #21DaysOfVGM Fall 2018 Composition Challenge! The prompts I chose today were:

"A Minor Challenge: Compose a piece in a minor key. It doesn’t have to be any more complicated than writing a piece in a Major key, and you should be comfortable with both." 

"Something Strange & Wonderful: Write a melody using an instrument you’ve never used before whose name you aren’t even 100% sure how to pronounce. Did you know there’s an instrument called a 'Crwth?' Those 11th-century Welsh musicians really knew how to rock. Good look finding a sample library with THAT included."

Yesterday I had attempted to write a shop theme, but nothing was really clicking for me, so I pivoted to something else. Today I returned DETERMINED to complete a shop theme, so I set out to pick prompts that would help me meet that. I was intrigued by the "Something Strange & Wonderful" prompt, so I went through my World Instruments libraries until I found one that inspired me: the Koto (a Japanese plucked string instrument).

After playing around with a compund meter (where I was really just writing a 4/4 counter melody in 5/4) I ditched that and eventually settled on the sound I wanted. I'm pretty happy with this one, and it's got an actual loop in it too!
