002 - Missed Connections w/ zi!

With co-signings from some of Europe’s most influential venues, platforms and labels, including Düsseldorf’s Salon des Amateurs and London’s NTS Radio, Cologne-based artist Phillip Jondo has garnered a well-earned reputation for driving sets and percussion-heavy tracks.

Jondo's Crack Mix treads a similarly weighty path. Commencing with a jittering cut from Iglooghost that wouldn’t sound out of place in a dance music lover’s sleep playlist, the recording deftly moves through an unpredictable barrage of “bass-inspired tracks ranging from drill and footwork influences to dembow, dub, r‘n’b and electro funk” from the likes of Jimmy Edgar, Proc Fiskal and PsychoYP. Listen out for an unreleased collab from Jondo, Xzavier Stone and DJ Plead, too.

Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. Aspiring multi-hyphenate : )

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?
A. I moved to NY in September of 2021. I had started to meet the seedlings of my now friends and budding community when I played here earlier in the summer of 2021 and before that, when I went to Sustain in 2019.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. This mix is:

1/2 the sequel to my beloved Honcho dubstep mix from 2021
1/2 a mix of music I would have shown to my baby stoner self in high school, instead of the carefully curated Majestic Casual-ridden playlists she was dutifully crafting at the time to accompany her equally intricate apple pipes.
