Hikø is a vinyl collector and DJ from Paris. His love for music comes from the club culture of which he was a long time avid participant. Since he moved to the other side of the turntables he strives to go back in time and broaden his horizon to assemble music sets that makes you groove or travel, or preferably both at the same time.

London lad and Local Talk regular Wipe The Needle AKA Lee Gomez's output has spanned a range of styles, from house to D&B to broken beat. He's operating firmly in the latter arena on this new EP for Bristol/Rotterdam-based Boogie Cafe, with 'Hornsey Rise' itself a steppy, shufflin' jazz outing (and the pick for yours truly) and 'Just To Say' a wonky-beated soul jam that's available with our without Ed Ramsey's vocal. We then take a left turn into laidback hip-hop pastures with 'Peace & Love' featuring Stan Smith, which again is served up with a matching but rap-free instrumental.

TLM033 introduces a new series to Ten Lovers Music, The Coin EP's all with one track either side of a 12". On the A side we have Cumulative Collective with Suede Bear. Musicians involved in this ever growing project are Roderick Stewart on Bass, Stefano De Santis on Keys, Takashi Nakazato on Percussion, Luke Radford on Sopranino Saxophone and Ayumi Suzuki on Vibraphone. Using musicians from the United Kingdom, Japan and Italy this has a truly international feel to it. The track was produced, arranged and programmed by Steve Conry who also mixed the track along with Stefano De Santis.

Onto side AA and we have Re:Fill with their track Live Vibe. As the name suggests the track was recorded live in Rome, Italy in one take. Re:Fill are Gaetano De Carli on Drums and Stefano De Santis on Keys and they have previously released on Italy's Cognitiva Records.

As always Jose Rico takes care of mastering duties keeping that TLM sound.

The concept behind this EP is to enlighten the listener to the two very different sides of this project. The A side has a more vintage spiritual jazz sound with a funk/afrobeat feel. The AA side is more contemporary with the Broken Boogie of Bring The Fonk incorporating disco strings from The Sunlight Orchestra and the extended version of Barra Nova which has echoes of a more modern Brazilian sound. - Stefano De Santis

My passion for Japanese jazz started way back in the 1970s and was fueled even more as the decade went on with the evolution of jazz dance in the UK's burgeoning jazz funk scene. As jazz breaks emerged in the jazz rooms, the demand for danceable jazz music in the UK kept growing. Through scouring the record shops in Manchester, Birmingham, and London, the emergence of great Japanese jazz added another dimension to this genre. My love for Japanese jazz continued until the turn of the century when the names changed from Sadao Watanabe, Mikio Masuda, Casiopea, Toshiyuki Honda, Shigeharu Mukai, and the like to the new emerging nu-jazz bands like Sleep Walker, Quasimode, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Jabberloop, and in 2006, the powerful force that was the indigo jam unit!
For me, indigo jam unit embodied the same energy as those jazz dance greats like Art Blakey, Dom Um Romao, Stone Alliance, and the like - just uncompromising raw passion! When Gilles Peterson asked me to start my own radio show for him on Worldwide FM called (naturally enough) Jazz Dance Fusion at the beginning of the pandemic in May 2020, it meant I could introduce underexposed music that I loved. Indigo jam unit was a natural fit. Following a conversation with my long-time Jazz Ally Paul Murphy of Jazz Room Records, we quickly decided that now was the time to unleash some of their best tracks to the world on an exclusive vinyl-only release.
