Searching

Toying around with the sounds of my keyboard I did a spontaneous improvisation with a split sound with violin in the right hand and piano in the left hand. After the first recording I left the violin part unchanged and only recorded the piano part again with both hands this time and on a grand piano for a better sound. Hope you like it.

Lullaby

I started a rather classical composition and ended up with a spontaneous improvisation and something a little different from my other piano tracks.

Pebbles' Dance

This is my musical image of a little unspectacular river floating through the countryside. 
It is played on an acoustic grand piano and therefore it took me some time to get it recorded without too many mistakes...

Little River

My teenage daughter came up with a little composition she had made some time ago. This was the start of our first mother-daughter-collaboration. 
I added an intro and outro based on her chord progression and also some strings in the middle part. Apart from that the composition is hers. 
In the middle part we play together with four hands on an acoustic piano. With all the imperfections and inaccuracies that go along. 
We enjoyed doing this together, hope you enjoy listening.

Lullaby - piano solo version

This song is about how we are often so lost in our thougts that we don‘t realize what is going on around us. In my case a lake I often pass by had turned green and I hadn‘t noticed for some time.

If you find some elements of Beethoven‘s Moonlight Sonata in the last part of the track you‘re right. I didn‘t do this on purpose, it just happended, they somehow found their way into my composition.

Two Faces

For those among you who, like me, have sligthly ambivalent feelings about Christmas: some allusions to a famous Christmas song and a few deliberate and ironic disharmonies ;-)

Lost Christmas

This is not A minor. This is not a blues. And most of all this is not a minor blues...

It started off with a sentimental composition in A minor. And it got boring. So I was toying around on the keys and the piece suddenly developed a different and unforseen character. Some elements of blues crept in, whereever they came from I have no idea... I normally don't play the blues... 
You'll hear what I mean if you listen beyond 60 seconds...

Every Smile You Fake

The shadows of our past sometimes slowly and unkowingly creep back into our lives. Then it's time to deal with them!

They happen to use the same chords and complement each other in one big crescendo.

Shadows Of Our Past

This is a little Waltz I was working on during last night's full moon. And in fact the days before...

You might recognize some elements of Beethoven's correspondent sonata, this was deliberate. 
You might also find some little uncertainties and mistakes. They were not deliberate ;-)

Moonlight Waltz

I was toying around with a famous Christmas song, adding some Boogie & Blues and minor keys.

Christmas will be over soon. 
And soon we'll find lots of Christmas trees lying on the streets, no longer needed, no longer wanted.
Like so many other things in life that are important to us for a certain period of time and later often carelessly thrown away.

A Very Silent Night

I was experimenting with modal scales, in this case E phrygian. Finding it a little strange at the beginning I quickly got used to it and recognized that this is what often happens in our lives. We face situations that are unfamiliar and sometimes unwanted. But after some time we get used to them and consider them normal. It often helps to accept them and make the best of it.

This is the first time in my life that I have ever used the sostenuto (Steinway) pedal. I guess I need some practicing but it's surprisingly useful!

Agitated

Lying sleeplessly in bed, brooding about some situation that makes us worry. And then waking up the next morning no longer being worried but rather optimistic and motivated to deal with the situation.
This is what I had in mind while composing this piece.

It's All In Your Head

This is another attempt at another modal scale, F Lydian, and a sudden improvisation on a late afternoon alone at home… after a long day working from home, actually after many such days, weeks, months… Home is a quite nice place for me!

The other day I pressed the record button of my mic, sat at the piano, closed my eyes and let my fingers play.

Summer Has Come And Passed

Often when I sit at my piano I find some sheet music my kids have left there earlier that day. Sometimes I take the opportunity and improvise on the chords or melody I see in front of me. This is what happened here. You might recognize the piece at the end ;-)

A short piano improvisation for the Piano Soundboard's "No Chord Challenge.":

Create a piece of music which no 2 notes are played together (i.e. No chords or intervals). This includes left hand notes and their relation to right hand notes.

Maybe Next Christmas

I had planned not to play a Christmas song. My left hand found a chord progression. And my right hand decided the melody of "Oh Christmas Tree" would fit. I'm not quite sure I agree with my right hand.
