Around The Bend

Tamar&Netanel create Folk music from the mountains of Jerusalem. They tell stories from the heart, alongside the never-ending inspiration from nature and from the human soul. The simple melodies, alongside stories about life, love and nature, are wrapped with Jerusalem mountains atmosphere.

The duo's debut album, Peace of Mind, was released in 2015 (includes 10 songs, 9 in English and one in Hebrew) and integrates between the simplicity of classic American folk music in a contemporary interaction, and Tamar and Netanel's Jewish roots. The first single released, "Oh Lord", is actually a private conversation with god (or what the Breslov Hasidic call it: "Hitbodedut" - self-seclusion). The theme song "Peace of Mind" talks about the spirituality of the nature, also an important issue in the Hasidic Judaism. T the only Hebrew song in the album, “Nigun”, is an original tune set to the lyrics written by Rabbi Kook describing Unconditional Love – a widely known Jewish principle with a universal message. This song reflects the couple’s desire to blur religious, cultural and human limitations and boundaries. In fact, when "Oh Lord" came out, one of the first requests they received was from a Protestant minister from Louisiana, USA, who asked if they would mind if he used their song in his Sunday Mass.

The couple’s writings are inspired by the changing seasons and peacefulness of nature, which is sometimes the only force able to soothe an aching soul. The album’s texts are in effect short stories of light and darkness, disappointment and hope and love and faith. The music magazine “Noise” wrote of their lyrics: “When Tamar&Netanel want to tell a story, they don’t imitate the legendary folk performers – they speak in their language.”

The clean sound and production of their music is relatively devoid of embellishment, and is based on the simplicity found in classic American folk music, while utilizing the qualities of modern sound techniques and contemporary interpretations. The album’s tunes are extremely melodious and in some ways even characterize the simplicity of children’s songs. The texts are wrapped in a melodious atmosphere of serenity, which results in the portraying of a musical story.

In their second album, "Pure As Gold", Tamar&Netanel continue to tell musical stories from the heart, with the never-ending inspiration from nature and the human soul.v
