Talking about our lifetime

The idea for this song came to me randomly while driving down some backroad a few years back, and I recorded the initial idea spur of the moment. For whatever reason, the rather morbid theme came out in the process and I just went with it. Nat is a daring soul and surprisingly encouraged that we record it and with her considerable help we fashioned this recording. Notable is that Nat has taken on the ability to add some beautiful pedal steel guitar throughout the song using her well established keyboard skills and this first run at it was very satisfying. After the harrowing collapse (Demise) and the stark realization of utter isolation (Lost), a musical lament begins to unfold. Tears pour forth— for the loss of all that was familiar: life, hope, the rhythm of what once was.
The English horn leads the orchestra through a descent into despair, guiding it gently, relentlessly, to the edge of desolation.
This piece ends not with silence, but with one final, desperate cry— a powerful minor chord, resonating with the weight of sorrow.

Former biathlon Olympic champion Laura Dahlmeier has died on 28th July 2025 while climbing in the Karakorum. A rockfall hit her at high altitude at Laila Peak while she was on the road with her rope partner. Rescue operations were greatly complicated by the dangerous situation.

This tune was supposed to be published with another title and with vocals. It was not finished yet, neither was the life of Laura.
